Publisher Atlus has released a brand-new video from the upcoming side-scrolling action platformer Abyss Odyssey, showing more of its complex gameplay elements and unveiling more of the game's story.

After shipping Rock of Ages and Zeno Clash, Chilean developer ACE Team took on a new challenge, in the form of Abyss Odyssey, a weird mixture of action platforming and fighting game with an interesting story and some spiffy Art Nouveau visuals.

The game's main twist is the fact that each enemy you come across is not merely fodder meant to be quickly disposed of, but instead just as technically complex as the warriors you play as. In addition to this, you can play as any of the characters you defeat during your adventure, by capturing or purchasing their soul.

Abyss Odyssey features procedurally generated levels and a very distinct art style, making sure that no playthroughs are ever the same, from the monsters that come between you and your goals to the positions of the life-saving merchants and unique encounters and treasures.

The extensive gameplay video also features some handy annotations, offering additional details on the game's systems and explaining how some of the innovative mechanics work.

Abyss Odyssey is coming out on July 15, for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms.
