Riot Games, the developer of the insanely popular MOBA game League of Legends, has announced a surprising and cool new community event celebrating players on its Australia and New Zealand server.

Players in the region are invited to take part in Ocean Week, an event running from January 23 through January 31, during which they can get their name inscribed on a statue that will be sunk into the ocean.

Every time a Summoner scores a win with one of the champions involved in the promotion, they will contribute a point toward reaching the community-wide goals.

Every player who manages to score three or more points on their own will have their name engraved on a special statue that will be sunk to the bottom of the ocean, to become an artificial reef.

Riot Games has mentioned that the statue will depict an in-game champion, but for the time being it is still to be decided whether it will be of Nami, Fizz or Nautilus.

The company is replacing the normal free-week champion rotation with a selected roster of 10 characters, with two more to be added through a community vote, and after unlocking the first challenge goal, the community will be able to make use of an extra 8 champions for the duration of the event.

You can find out more information regarding the event in the announcement post on the League of Legend boards.
