The first week of 2014 only consisted of five full days and the holiday period over New Year’s Eve means that we have no new review to share with you this week, although a large number of long form evaluations of the most important games of 2013 are available in our archive.

Despite the limited time we do offer our traditional two Weekend Reading features: one about the long term outlook for the video game industry in 2014 and another about DDoS attacks.

After awarding the Game of the Year 2013 awards to our favorite titles we are also turning our gaze to the future in our Incoming series, which offers information on the most important releases of the year and why they are worth waiting for in our Incoming 2014 Games series.

The EndWeekGame piece talks about how we plan to spend our free time and we also take a look back over the past seven days in order to offer a recap of the most interesting news.

On Monday reports arrived about Xbox One consoles that are leaking an unidentified white liquid and Sony announced that it plans to deliver some great surprises during 2014 for all those who are buying a PlayStation 4 home console.

We then had a three day break but found the time to report on hacker attacks that have targeted Battle.net, World of Warcraft and League of Legends, a Premium XP event for Battlefield 4 that got postponed and another attack that took out Planetside 2, DC Universe Online and more.

Friday the hacking attack continued and a group managed to bring down Steam, the biggest digital distribution service on the PC.

At the same time Respawn revealed that it will not offer mod support in Titanfall when the game launches, although it might be added in at a later date.

Saturday an analyst talked about how sales of the PlayStation 4 will outclass the global numbers of the Wii U and BioWare offered more info on Dragon Age: Inquisition.
