Back to Rapture

This week has been all about BioShock 2, the return to Rapture engineered by a variety of 2K studios and Digital Extremes, and we've got four videogame diaries to show after playing the title, talking about Sophia Lamb, the mini last stand battles and the city of Rapture itself. But we also have our regular Weekend Reading piece, talking about models for the future of game sales, and an EndWeekGame segment. Of course, we also have a fine selection of videogame news from the seven days that have passed.

On Monday, we talked about Electronic Arts' decision to offer the original Tiberian Dawn, Tiberian Sun and the first Red Alert for free to all those interested, made to work for Windows XP, while Bungie caused mass enthusiasm by releasing a video showing Halo: Reach in motion for the first time.

Tuesday was about the Xbox 360, with Microsoft saying that 2010 would be the biggest year in the history of the console despite the resurgence of the PlayStation 3 from Sony. Meanwhile, Infinity Ward launched another patch for Modern Warfare 2, as it continues to battle against the tendency to cheat on the part of players.

On Wednesday, Microsoft again made news by announcing that it did not plan to release the 250 GB hard drive as a standalone product, while the rumored Nintendo DS 2 handheld from Nintendo was still being worked on but would probably not make an appearance at GDC.

Thursday was about huge franchises, as Square Enix announced that no downloadable content was planned for release for Final Fantasy XIII. Meanwhile, a lot of people called sick from work as Blizzard stealthily launched the beta stage for its StarCraft II real-time strategy.

On Friday, we talked about Civilization V, which Sid Meier and Firaxis are currently developing with the release date expected somewhere in the fall of 2010 and about Crysis 2, the first person shooter set in New York, which might be less visually impressive than thought because of the need to also launch it on the Xbox 360.
