December is well underway, although there is no snow around yet, but the launch season is well behind us and we get a respite ahead of a pretty busy first few months of 2012, which means we have no new reviews to deliver for the week.

Instead, we have started a Softpedia branded Game of the Year series which looks back at the best and the worst games of the year and is set to continue until the end of December, when we will reveal the best game we have played in the last 365 days.

We also have a Quick Look for Trine 2, the beautiful three person puzzle game that was launched this week, and a peek at how The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim looks in full three dimensions, with some help from Nvidia.

For obsessive readers we also have a Weekend Reading piece about how Game of the Year awards are judged and a EndWeekGame article which details how we will spend our gaming time.

And, as always, we have the most interesting news of the last seven days.

On Monday Ubisoft talked about the future of the Assassin’s Creed series and about how its mechanics allow for endless launches while Microsoft and 343 Industries talked about the change in look that both Master Chief and Cortana will suffer in the upcoming Halo 4.

Tuesday Microsoft launched the new dashboard update for the Xbox 360 home console, which comes with a new EULA and a number of new features, while Sony offered some information on The Last of Us, a PlayStation 3 exclusive that will be officially revealed at the VGAs.

On Wednesday we delivered a round-up of the problems that the Xbox 360 dashboard update introduced for gamers while Obsidian, the developers of the new South Park role playing game, talked abut how swearing will influence the game.

Thursday Peter Moore talked about Battlefield 3 and how it took market share away from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 while Bethesda delivered the Pc version of the 1.3 patch for Skyrim which fixes resistances but not instances of crash to desktop.

Friday we found out how to make the ads for the new Xbox 360 dashboard disappear while Skyrim was revealed as being the most played game of 2011 by Raptr.
