This was the week of Gamescom 2011, the Cologne, Germany based trade event which provides the European counterpart to the United States E3 trade show and we have quite a few news and on the scene reports gathered under our Gamescom 2011 label.

We have Hands On and Off articles for games like: Mario Kart 7, Batman: Arkham City, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Resistance 3, Mass Effect 3, Darsiders II, Gears of War 3, Kingdoms of Amalur, Forza Motorsport 4, Uncharted on both PS3 and the PSP and more.

But we also have a number of Quick Looks for a number of games: Pirates of Black Cove, The Sims Social and King's Bounty: Legion.

We also have an EndWeekGame piece that talks about my plans for the weekend free time and a Weekend Reading feature that takes on the subjects of the Nintendo 3DS price cut and when we will fully see its effect.

And, as always, we have a selection of the most important gaming information that the last seven days have spawned.

We were free on Monday so this week is shorter than usual with Tuesday bringing news that the developers at an unnamed Ubisoft studio were working on a new shooter than involves domestic grown terrorism in the United States and a descendant of George Washington.

We were also witnesses to the Electronic Arts Gamescom 2011 press conference, which brought news about FIFA Street, SSX, Battlefield 3 and Need for Speed: The Run.

Wednesday developer Carbine, made up of ex-Blizzard developers, and publisher NCsoft have announced Wildstar, a new MMO which combines new mechanics with science fiction and with fantasy elements.

On the same day Sony announced a price cut for the PlayStation 3 home console and a new, budget priced version of the PlayStation Portable handheld.

Thursday we found out that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have dedicated servers for the PC version while the Gamescom 2011 organizers announced that rival Battlefield 3 has won the Best of Show award.

Friday Blizzard talked about its own DOTA mod for Starcraft II, which might arrive alongside Heart of the Swarm, while Electronic Arts announced it will limit both physical and digital sales for Star Wars: The Old Republic.
