The team at Sony in charge of the 3DS handheld announces that it is introducing a StreetPass Weekend for North American users of the device which will allow them to interact with other players from the entire country.

The event will take place on December 13 and 14 and all owners are expected to participate.

The company explains that the Zone location service that it runs will be used to gather data from StreetPass locations and then mix them in order to bring together players that would otherwise never be able to interact via the 3DS.

The company will also offer a number of prizes and special events but has not revealed a full list of them.

The StreetPass weekend is a good way for Nintendo to advertise the 3DS before the crucial Christmas shopping season and show the more social side of the handheld.
