An anonymous source claims that the 2K Marin development studio, which worked on both BioShock 2 and on The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, is now effectively closed down, with all remaining staff moving to a new entity.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun says that Rod Fergusson, a former executive, is leading a new team based in Novato that has made offers to the most important members of Marin.

An official statement from 2K Games explains, “we regularly evaluate our development efforts and have decided to reallocate creative resources. Our goal to create world-class video game titles remains unchanged.”

It’s unclear whether the new Novato studio will deliver any new content for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.

The game was widely expected by fans of the universe, which was successfully rebooted by Firaxis with Enemy Unknown, but failed to deliver a compelling experience and was widely criticized for repetitive mechanics.
