WARMACHINE: Tactics
Build your squad of powerful and awesome looking warjacks and put your tactical thinking to the test. #Turn based strategy #Squad tactics #Squad combat #TBS #Strategy #Squad
Warcasters and Warjacks, human battle mages that wield arcane magic and giant robots that are built to be pure devastation, the cores that shape WARMACHINE: Tactics. It’s a turn based strategy game in which you will have to lead a squad of mechs and other types of warriors into combat with the obvious goal of demolishing your enemies.
It’s a game with a great idea and world setting, it has a lot to offer but get ready for a love-hate relationship.
WARMACHINE: Tactics has a solid concept with which to work, it’s not the most original but the blend of various ideas makes it kind of unique. There are multiple factions to play and each one is designed to look totally badass, you can customize the composition of your squad and blend units together to devise several assault tactics.
It really does offer a lot to work with and it pushes some good mechanics that make tactical combat exactly what it’s meant to be. However, despite the fact that WARMACHINE: Tactics looks great, gameplay has a lot to suffer from a few poorly thought out features.
The most frustrating thing I can mention is the slap in the face camera use during combat. It’s all over the place, and most of the time it feels like you’re just wasting time waiting for the angle to switch to where the fight is, then switch back to where you last left it only to have it move to a new mini brawl and so on until you get dizzy. It’s a rather important aspect of the gameplay that actually kills part of the thrill of a fight.
WARMACHINE: Tactics should be like a bottle of wine, it needs to reach its potential as it ages because even now, despite its early stages of development, it has plenty of issues. The HUD is kind of bad in terms of design and how it handles and somehow, it seems like everything was rushed to sync up with the release date.
Combat is really good, it feels different and it’s pleasant to look at (when the camera doesn't mess everything up). Seeing as how you can create large squads, tactics will be crucial and there is a lot to take into consideration in every single move that you make. As a turn based strategy game, WARMACHINE: Tactics is definitely worth your time.
On a closing note, WARMACHINE: Tactics has a long way to go before it becomes completely playable and enjoyable. There is a lot going on for it and it’s what will draw and keep you there for a lot of hours.
A this time, in the demo you get to play a few of the campaign missions but WARMACHINE: Tactics is worth playing for the free skirmish matches and the possibility to challenge another demo player.
