You can now add users of your PS4™ system as family members. This makes it easy to manage your child's account information and to restrict PS4™ system features. To add family members, select (Settings) > [Parental Controls/Family Management].
As the family manager, you can set up your family users with roles of Parent/Guardian, adult, and child.
Multiple adults can be in your family. The family manager can assign the role of Parent/Guardian to other adults in the family.
The family manager and family members who have the role of Parent/Guardian on the PS4™ system can adjust parental controls for the children in your family. Adults who are not a Parent/Guardian cannot set parental controls for children.
The family manager and Parent/Guardians can configure parental control settings for each child separately. Using parental controls, you can restrict use of online features and communication with other players, set restrictions for games, restrict use of the Internet browser, and set spending limits for PlayStation™Store.
The family manager and Parent/Guardians can configure parental controls anytime from a PC or smartphone.
Up to seven family members (including you) can be in your family and use online features.
You can now follow anyone, not just verified accounts. Select (Follow) on a person's profile screen, and their activities and broadcasts will appear in [What's New]. You automatically follow your Friends, but you have the option to unfollow them.
Recommendations for who to follow are now offered based on the games you play. Select (Friends) > (Follow).
You can now choose who can follow you and who can see your follow list. select (Settings) > [Account Management] > [Privacy Settings], and then configure each setting.
(Custom Lists) has been added to (Friends). Create custom lists to easily organize your Friends and choose players to send messages or game invitations to.
For certain broadcasts, (Communities) now appears on the (Live from PlayStation) viewing screen. To access the broadcaster's community, select (Communities).
You can now view (Notifications) on the quick menu.
The following languages have been added as system languages. Czech, Indonesian, Hungarian, Romanian, Vietnamese, Greek, Thai.
When broadcasting PlayStation®VR gameplay, you can now see spectator comments on your VR headset screen.
Other new or revised features in version 5.00:
For (Messages), screen layout has been improved, and the following features have been added.
You can now receive music that has been shared with you as a message. Select the message to play the music.
Messages containing a URL now display a preview.

You can now use a USB 3.0 storage device to install applications, or move applications from your PS4™ system storage. Use a USB storage device that meets the following conditions.
External hard disk drive
USB 3.0 or later
250 GB minimum, 8 TB maximum capacity
Select (Settings) > [Devices] > [USB Storage Devices], select the connected USB storage device, and then format it for use as extended storage.
There is no guarantee that all USB storage devices are compatible with your system.
The quick menu is now more user friendly. Party features, such as creating and joining parties, are even easier to access from the quick menu.
(Notifications) has been redesigned. All notifications now appear in a single list.
When using Remote Play on a Windows® PC, Mac, Xperia™ Smartphone, or Xperia™ Tablet, you can now use your device's microphone for voice chat in games or in parties.
You can now use screenshots to customize the background of your home screen and function screen. Select (Settings) > [Themes] > [Select Theme] > [Custom].
You can now post screenshots directly to activities, such as those shown in [What's New]. Press the SHARE button, select [Screenshot], and then select [Activities] as the upload destination. Also, you can now tag games and fellow players.
You can now post animated GIFs to activities and social applications.
Your status is now visible as (Mobile) when you sign in to an application such as (PlayStation®App), even when you are away from your PS4™ system. This means you are available to communicate with Friends.
You can now make a party public or private even after the party has been created. Select (Party) > [Party Settings] > [Party Privacy].
PlayStation®VR now supports Blu-ray 3D™ content.
Other new or revised features in version 4.50:
The PS4™ system you use to sign in to PlayStation™Network for the first time is now automatically activated as your primary PS4™ system.
As a parent or guardian, you can now easily create sub accounts for your children when creating your master account.
You can now upload or download saved data right from the home screen. Highlight a game, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Upload/Download Saved Data].
You now have the option to share screenshots on PlayStation Network. When sharing, you can also adjust privacy settings.
You can now launch (SHAREfactory) right from (Capture Gallery). Press the OPTIONS button while viewing (Capture Gallery), and then select [Edit in SHAREfactory].
You can now change the color of your profile screen to match the cover image. On your profile screen, select (Options) > [Change Cover Image] > [Change Background Color].
When reporting inappropriate content, you can now preview your report before sending.
The design of (PS4 Remote Play) for Xperia™ has been updated.
When you receive a party invitation in (Messages) or (PS Messages), you can respond with a quick reply.

You can also customize the Quick Menu by choosing the items that will appear. Just select [Customize] from the Quick Menu.
You can now choose a cover image for your profile. On the profile screen, select (Options) > [Change Cover Image].
You can now create folders to arrange your games and applications. On the home screen, focus on a game or application, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Add to Folder].
You can now transfer all your games, saved data, captures, and settings from one PS4™ system to another. This is useful if you're replacing your PS4™ system with a new one. Select (Settings) > [System] > [Transfer Data from Another PS4].
In (Live from PlayStation), you can now let players know you like their screenshots and video clips by adding a comment or by selecting (Like).
The number of messages that can be saved in (Messages) has increased. Newly added players to your group will now be able to see the group's previous messages.
The following features are now available for (Trophies):
You can now see details for hidden trophies. Go to the details screen for a trophy, and then press the button.
You can now view trophies saved on your PS4™ system, even if your system has no network connection.
The rarity indicator for trophies has improved functionality.
Privacy settings are now available for each of your individual games. You can hide your activities and trophies on a per-game basis. Select (Settings) > [PlayStation Network/Account Management] > [Privacy Settings] > [Sharing Your Experience] > [Hidden Games].
(Communities) is now displayed on the function screen. The following Community features are also now available:
You can now reply to original posts on a Community Wall.
You can post screenshots directly to a Community Wall. From the Share menu, select [Screenshot] > [Communities].
Other new or revised features in version 4.00:
If you need to enter text while using Remote Play, you can now use the keyboard for the connected computer or device.
The YouTube™, Twitch™, and dailymotion™* apps now support broadcasts in 720p (at 60 fps).
A notification message now appears to let you know that your Friend request was accepted.
It’s now easier to manage your downloads in (Notifications). Items in the list will download in the order displayed. To start downloading an item immediately, select it, and then select [Download Now].
When you report inappropriate content, you can now add a comment about it.

You can now create events. Select (Events) > [Create Event], set the date and time, number of players who can join, and other details, and then send invitations to players you want to play with. You can also create events in (Messages).
(Play Together) has been added to (Party). For online multiplayer games that support the Play Together feature, you can automatically invite other players and start game sessions immediately.
Notification messages are now displayed when Friends go online. You can change the setting in (Settings) > [Notifications] > [When Friends Go Online].
You can now change your online status to offline, even if you are actually online. When you log in to the PS4 system, select [Log In With Online Status [Appear Offline]] from the options menu. You can also change your status from your profile screen or the quick menu.
You can now use Remote Play on a computer (Windows® PC or Mac) that has (PS4 Remote Play) installed. Download (PS4 Remote Play) from the following website, install it, and then connect to your PS4 system.
You can now broadcast gameplay on dailymotion
Other new or revised features in version 3.50:
You can now send event or party invitations to groups or communities.
You can now share other players' activities. In [What's New], for example, select an activity to share, and then select (Share Activity).
When uploading screenshots or video clips, players can now tag others they’ve played games with. To choose who can tag you, select (Settings) > [PlayStation™Network/Account Management] > [Privacy Settings] > [Sharing Your Experience] > [Tags].
Depending on the content, verified accounts are now displayed on the content info screen so that you can follow the accounts more easily.
PlayStation™Network service status can now be checked by selecting (Settings) > [Network] > [View Status of PlayStation™Network Services].
Notification messages are no longer displayed when Friends join parties. You can change the setting in (Settings) > [Notifications] > [When Friends Join a Party].
Users of a certain age can now create sub accounts without waiting for a master account holder to sign in to PlayStation™Network. For sub account users to access network features, the master account holder must sign in and provide approval. The master account holder can also set parental controls in (Settings) > [Parental Controls].
More features now support accessibility.

(Events) has been added. Select (Events) from the function screen to find and join events that are being held for specific games as well as events for official gameplay broadcasts.
(Communities) has been added. Communities are places where you can play games, meet other players who have similar interests and preferences, or just talk. Select (Friends) > (Communities) from the function screen to create a new Community or find and join an existing Community.
You can now easily search for games or parties that other players are participating in by selecting [Now Playing] in [What’s New], (Friends), (Messages), or Communities. View a list of the game sessions and parties that Friends and members are enjoying at that time and select options such as joining a game session or watching another player’s live broadcast.
You can now send a request to watch another player’s gameplay. The player who receives the request can share their gameplay by broadcasting or by using Share Play. To send a request, select [Now Playing] in [What’s New], (Friends), (Messages), or Communities, and then select [Request to Watch].
The following features have been added to (Messages). The screen layout has also been improved.
You can create groups of Friends to receive messages. You can name groups and assign images to groups.
View games or parties that other members are participating in at any particular time.
Start a party with other members.
Send stickers.
Add groups that you often communicate with to your list of Favorite Groups. You can check your Favorite Groups in (Friends).
It’s now possible to broadcast your gameplay on YouTube™.
You can now upload video clips to Twitter (10-second limit).

Players in a party can now use Share Play:
With Share Play, two PSN players in the same party can share a game screen. The host (the user who initiates Share Play) and the guest (the user who joins Share Play) can play the same game together while watching the same screen, or the guest can take the place of the host and operate the host's game screen.
To initiate Share Play, select [Share Play] from the party screen. Use of some features requires a PlayStation Plus membership.
Video clips can now be uploaded to YouTube.
You can now set themes for home screens and function screens for each user. Themes can be downloaded from PlayStation Store. Select themes in [Settings] > [Themes].
You can now play music stored on USB storage devices. Connect a USB storage device containing music files (MP3 or AAC) to the PS4 system, and then select [USB Music Player] from the content area.

You can now view broadcasts from the past.
Broadcasts can now be filtered by language. With the list of broadcasts displayed, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Language].
You can now follow your favorite channels or broadcasters.
[Featured) has been added. You can browse broadcasts such as PlayStation®-recommended broadcasts, broadcasts from Friends, and broadcasts you follow.
[Games] has been added. Broadcasts for each game are displayed.
Twitch icons can now be displayed in comments.
The following settings have been added to broadcasts. With the Share menu displayed, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Share Settings] > [Broadcast Settings] > [Advanced Settings]:
You can now display messages to spectators.
You can now include party voice chats in broadcasts. A player's voice will be included only if the setting to allow the player's voice to be broadcast is enabled in the party settings.
You can now adjust settings such as size, background, and effects of video content from the PlayStation Camera.
When you select [Upload Screenshot] from the Share menu, you can now attach a screenshot to your message.
You can now trim your video clips in [Capture Gallery].
Settings:
You can now set the length of time your controller will charge while your PS4 system is in Rest Mode (formerly known as Standby Mode – see below). Set the time in [Settings] > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Rest Mode] > [Supply Power to USB Ports].
[View Guide] and [Commands for Voice Operation] have been added to [Settings] > [System] > [Voice Operation Settings]. You can view a list of details and hints about operating the PS4 system with your voice.

The layout of the [Party] screen has been improved.
The number of content items displayed in the content area has been changed. Content items that are not displayed can be reviewed in [Library]. You can review all content items in the content area by removing the checkmark from [Limit Number of Content Items on Home Screen] in [Settings] > [System].
[PS button] now appears in some notification messages. You can view details about a message by pressing the PS button when the message is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.
When you connect a new device to your system, you can check the remaining battery charge in the system message that is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.
"Standby Mode" has been renamed "Rest Mode".

Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the PS4 system software.

Remote Play:
Users will be able to access PS4 titles displayed on their living room TVs and play them on a PS Vita system over Wi-Fi networks by using PS4 Link (Depending on network environment or titles, remote play performance may vary outside of the home). We anticipate that most PS4 titles will be playable on the PS Vita system through Remote Play. The latest PS Vita system software version, to be released soon, will be required to use PS4 Link.
Second Screen:
Users can use the PS4 Link application for the PS Vita system, and PlayStation App for iPhone, iPad, and Android-based smartphones and tablets, to use these devices as second screens in supported titles. PlayStation App has the ability to enable users to interact with games with their mobiles devices. For example on The Playroom, a title pre-installed in all PS4 systems that requires PlayStation Camera, users can draw pictures on their mobile device screens and flick them towards the TV. The images then appear as a 3D object within the game.
Record, take screenshots, and upload gameplay effortlessly:
The PS4 system provides dedicated, “always on” video encoding systems that enables seamless uploading of gameplay. Users can share their epic triumphs by simply hitting the Share button on DualShock 4, take screenshots or scan through the last 15 minutes of gameplay, tag it and return to the game—the video uploads as the user plays. At the PS4 system’s launch in North America, users will be able to share their images and videos with friends on Facebook and screenshots with followers on Twitter, though users will need to sign up for individual accounts to use Facebook and Twitter.
Broadcast and spectate gameplay:
The PS4 system also enhances social spectating by enabling users to broadcast their gameplay in real-time to game fans around the globe, using Ustream and Twitch live internet streaming services (users will need to sign up for individual accounts to use Ustream and Twitch). There are two ways for users to view live broadcasts. First, the Live from PlayStation application on PS4 aggregates streams from all PlayStation users. Second, users can spectate friends’ PS4 gameplay from PCs, and applications such as Ustream, Twitch, and browsers, which are installed on their mobile devices. These applications can be easily started up via PlayStation App, and users can also use these applications to post comments to gameplay broadcasts. Furthermore, users with PlayStation Camera can stream camera images and microphone sounds along with their live gameplay broadcast.
Play as you download:
This feature enables users to play supported digital titles as they are being downloaded. The time it takes to begin playing will vary depending on game data size and network environments, and not all titles will support this feature When a game is purchased, users can start playing after PS4 downloads a portion of the data, while the rest of the game is downloaded in the background during actual gameplay. Games may be downloaded in stand-by mode.
Multi log-in:
A maximum of four users can log-in to a single PS4 system simultaneously. These players can use their own save data to play games, and also earn trophies on their own Sony Entertainment Network accounts even when playing a multiplayer game together on a single PS4 system.
Party (Voice chat):
By using the Mono Headset bundled with the PS4 system, users will be able to chat with up to eight friends enjoying different applications or games. Furthermore, users can use Party to chat between PS4 and PS Vita systems.
Face recognition and voice commands:
Users with PlayStation Camera will be able to register their facial image onto their PS4 system, and login to their system using facial recognition instead of DualShock 4. Furthermore, users can use either the microphone of the Mono Head set connected to DualShock 4, or PlayStation Camera to navigate through the PS4 home screen (PlayStation Dynamic Menu) with voice commands to start up games and shutdown the system, among other features; please refer to PS4’s online manual for recognizable voice commands.
Background music player:
Users can enjoy gameplay while listening to music in the background with Music Unlimited, a cloud-based digital music service. Users can also voice chat with friends while listening to music. Learn more about Music Unlimited here.
Online Multiplayer:
PlayStation Plus members will be able to play PS4 titles online with other players via the network. PS Plus makes it easy for members to join available online multiplayer matches in a variety of ways, including the ability to easily join a game from a live stream broadcast or Party voice chats.
Blu-ray Disc and DVD player:
Users can enjoy not only gaming on their PS4 system, but also Blu-ray and DVD video contents. When using for the first time, users must connect to the internet to activate this feature.
