What's new in Sanicball 0.8.1 Alpha

  • Green Hill Zone has been remade from scratch! Same overall layout, but a very different track design. Also added new props, ambient noises, water reflections, and much better lighting.
  • Added dash panels which make you go even faster. They’re placed all around Green Hill Zone, but likely won’t appear in the other stages before they too recieve a revamp.
  • Made a number of improvements to multiplayer bandwidth usage, most importantly when sending player movement packages, which is what happens most frequently.
  • AI balls now use a new pathfinding system. It should be more lightweight while also making them drive better. However there are still several stage sections where they mess up often

New in Sanicball 0.7.3 Alpha (Sep 12, 2016)

  • The server will now restart itself if it crashes.
  • Fixed server issue where too many players would cause bugs for new players joining.
  • Added a setting that decides the % of players who need to vote for returning to lobby.
  • Servers with “Random” stage rotation can no longer play the same stage twice
  • Fixed server browser sometimes freezing on refresh
  • Fixed server browser pings being very unreliable
  • Nicer looking chat messages
  • In online races, players are now disqualified if they don’t enter any checkpoints for too long
  • After the first player has finished, entering new checkpoints won’t reset the disqualification timer - this helps against players dragging out the race for ages
  • Added a scoreboard and winner podium at the end of races
  • Remote players should now move in a less glitchy way

New in Sanicball 0.7.2 Alpha (Sep 2, 2016)

  • Online multiplayer is BACK! Rewritten from bottom up, hopefully more stable than before.
  • Switched to having dedicated servers instead of players just hosting servers from the game menu. This means every server can be connected to (No more NAT punching failures), and will stay up (hopefully) all the time.
  • Added a new character: Metal Sanic! While this guy has no special stats, he’s very shiny, which is always a good thing.
  • Added a new song by fan request - Deja Vu from Initial D. An excellent multi-track meme.
  • Improved lobby UI - less annoying help text, and more UI elements for online matches.
  • Improved ingame UI - all players have markers on them so you can always see where they are. Also changed look of the racer position list.
  • New path texture for Ice Mountain.
