Heroes & Generals Changelog

What's new in Heroes & Generals 1.15.1

Jul 11, 2019
  • ATTENTION SOLDIERS!:
  • In this update, you can expand your arsenal with 3 new recon vehicles, and take your fight to the enemy in high speed and strong firepower! We also introduce some community requested Strategy hotfixes and a model update for the M5A1 Stuart. Read below for details.
  • NEW RECON VEHICLES:
  • You can now challenge your enemy and wreak havoc with 3 new recon vehicles!
  • The American recon vehicle is Tier 2 while the German and Soviet are Tier 3.
  • THE AMERICAN T8E1 STUART RECCE:
  • Based on the M5 Light Tank but with the turret removed, this means a lot more armor than the other recon vehicles. It is also modified for wider tracks so speed anywhere on land is no problem, and it can even traverse water with it’s semi-amphibious abilities. It is ideal for anti-infantry purposes as it has two mounted machine guns, one 50 cal. and one 30 cal. for quickly dispatching any enemy infantry.
  • THE GERMAN SD.KFZ. 234/2 PUMA:
  • The Puma is an iconic recon vehicle. It is well regarded for its armament consisting of a 50mm KWK 39 L/60 cannon and a coaxial MG-42 and high speed. It’s maneuverability is also part of its core design, it can drive as fast forward as it can backwards, which enables it to quickly reverse out of the battlefield if danger approaches.
  • THE SOVIET BA-11:
  • This recon vehicle is a well armored recon vehicle with high ammo capacity, featuring the same 45 mm cannon as the BA-6 and has two DT machine guns. It can almost go as fast backwards as it can forwards, which is very handy when you have to react quickly to any situation.
  • COMMUNITY REQUESTED RTS FIXES:
  • We have also identified and corrected some community requested fixes for the Strategy game. More specifically, morale issues Assault Teams faced when being undeployed from losing a battle with no valid retreat path or when they are depleted.
  • We also introduced some fixes in regards to the Battlefield Commander badge, and corrected some inconsistencies to the amount of supplies captured by surrounding enemy Assault Teams.
  • OTHER IMPROVEMENTS:
  • We also updated the model of the M5A1 Stuart for the US, it now looks even better, meaner and more dangerous.
  • 1.15.1 is our game update for June and we will be looking forward to hear your feedback as we continue to work on the next update!

New in Heroes & Generals 1.12.1 - Deploy! Drive! Destroy! (Nov 14, 2018)

  • DEPLOY TO ACTIVATE YOUR BONUS:
  • Each soldier’s Daily Bonus is activated when you deploy him into his first battle of the day – no matter if it is the soldier you started battle with, or if he is a soldier you switched to during battle.
  • Once the Daily Bonus is activated, you get a 50 % experience bonus for that soldier – the bonus remains in effect until battle ends.
  • Only one Daily Bonus per soldier.
  • Not sure if you redeemed your daily bonus yet? If available, your soldier will show a small orange 50 % sticker next to his portrait on the Heroes-screen.
  • On the virtual battlefield of Heroes & Generals a new day starts at 05:00 UTC (06:00 CET / 12:00 am EDT) – that’s when the Daily Bonus resets.
  • A NEW OVERVIEW:
  • As a new player in Heroes & Generals you automatically get an infantry soldier belonging to each faction – Germany, Soviet Union and United States – but you might not have noticed?
  • We added a faction awareness filter to the Heroes-screen that by default displays all your soldiers from all factions. You can then choose to only see one or two factions – whatever provides the best overview for you.
  • A good example for Veteran players is to use the faction awareness filter as an overview of all their pilots or tankers regardless of faction.
  • THE FEEL OF WAR:
  • War is an inferno of bullets, explosions and deadly fighter planes in the sky – something even a newly arrived soldier will experience when entering their very first encounter battles.
  • To strengthen the feeling of war for new players, we have added fighter planes to their first series of encounter battles.
  • The planes will fight it out amongst themselves in the sky and will not engage with the infantry soldiers battling for control of the capture point.
  • Hint: A soldier with a steady aim will be able to take out the pilots and be awarded experience for doing so.

New in Heroes & Generals 1.12 - Deploy! Drive! Destroy! (Oct 9, 2018)

  • WAR REQUIRES RESOURCES:
  • You always enter the battle as part of an infantry, tank, recon, pilot or paratrooper squad, but as mentioned the new deploy system gives you the freedom to deploy as any type of soldier once you are in combat. If the necessary resources are available that is.
  • This means that you still can’t deploy as a paratrooper or pilot in a Skirmish Battle as the game mode does not support these soldier types. Neither can you deploy as for example a pilot in an Assault Battle if there are no pilot resources available for that battle.
  • Finally your initial choice of squad also ties together with the available resources. You might have entered as a pilot squad, chosen to spend most of the combat deploying your tank crew, but if pilot resources runs out your squad is still removed from the battle.
  • WAR REQUIRES EXPERIENCE:
  • The new deploy system in Update 1.12 removes the old auxiliary seat feature and instead operates with fixed squad sizes with up to four players in an infantry and paratrooper squad, three players in a tank crew squad and two players in a pilot or recon squad.
  • We are aware that some players want to coordinate more than “just” four players To this end we are working on a squad linking system, that will enable you to link two different squad in order to enter battles together. We hope to release this system soon.
  • Removing the auxiliary seat feature also means that Squad Upgrade Points unlocked on the Squad Leader and -Member ribbon are no longer used to modify your squad.
  • Instead Squad Upgrade Points now give everyone in the squad an additional 0,5% of the XP earned by other members of the squad – that is a significant bonus for a squad of soldiers who has maxed out those two ribbons.
  • WAR REQUIRES VEHICLES:
  • The new deploy system also gives you complete freedom when choosing what vehicles your soldiers should bring into combat. You are no longer restricted by the vehicle categories previously forcing you to only equip one of each type.
  • If you want your tank crewman to bring three light tanks and a tank destroyer to the frontline, or for your infantry soldier to have access to all three support vehicles during battle – just go right ahead and make the loadout that fits your playstyle.
  • WAR REQUIRES MAINTENANCE:
  • It takes time to prepare equipment, weapons and vehicles for combat, something that the new deploy system convey through the concepts of equipment- and vehicle field maintenance load.
  • Basically what happens every time you lose equipment and vehicles in battle is that you put “load” on the “imaginary crew” working to get you gear ready, and as a rule of thumb the bigger and more deadly gear you lost, the more “load” you are generating. This has an impact on what you are able to deploy with.
  • Simply put it takes a while to get for example your next heavy tank ready for use if you just lost one in combat. You can then choose either to wait, deploy a lighter tank. deploy as a support gunner or maybe even deploy as infantry while you wait for your heavy tank to be ready once more.

New in Heroes & Generals 1.10.2 (Jun 11, 2018)

  • NEW ANTI-CHEAT SYSTEM ALLOWS US TO FOCUS MORE ON THE GAME:
  • A new Anti-Cheat system, BattlEye, is now implemented to make Heroes & Generals fun and fair for everyone and provide an effective shield against cheats and hacks.
  • Licensing a well proven anti-cheat system like BattlEye frees up development resources that we can put towards improving and developing the game, benefitting you the players.
  • If you want to know more about BattlEye, have a look at this blog post.
  • BEWARE OF FRIENDLY MINES:
  • It is no fun to place mines around a capture zone just to have friendly players shoot them to pieces – be it on purpose or by accident.
  • Taking community suggestions into consideration our solution to this issue is to add a -10 XP penalty if you destroy a friendly mine.
  • So you might want to start paying attention to those red danger indicators showing you where friendly mines are placed.
  • ADJUSTING CONE FIRE AND DAMAGE:
  • We get a lot of valuable feedback from the community about the complex issue of balancing the weapons in Heroes & Generals, and based on this we have made a few adjustments.
  • The damage at range have been slightly increased for both the PPD-40 and PPSH-41, we also decreased the PPD-40 cone fire from 0.81° to 0,7° and the PPSH-41 cone fire from 0,78° to 0,7° – all of it to better align them with other submachine guns.
  • Players have also asked for the PTRD anti-tank rifle to be a bit more precise. To achieve this we lowered the cone fire from 1.2° to 0.8°.
  • BINOCULAR SWITCH EXPLOIT ADDRESSED:
  • Community reported that some players exploited switching from a binocular to a weapon without aim being affected – in essence using binoculars as a makeshift scope.
  • To counter this exploit we have added a very slight hand movement effect when you switch from binocular to weapon. The movement is random and so slight that you won’t lose your orientation at all, but just enough for you to have to steady your aim again.
  • NEW BATCH OF VEHICLE PAINT JOBS:
  • With the 1.10.2 update we are adding another batch of vehicle paint jobs for all factions – among these and by popular demand two paint jobs for the classic Soviet Medium Tank T-34-85 Model 1944.

The more than 30 new leaderboards covers not only classic stats like kills, headshots, etc., but also stats for support roles, tactical actions and how good the Generals are at commanding their troops in the War.
  • The leaderboard categories are:
  • OVERALL – ranking soldiers based on score, kills, headshots, etc.
  • SUPPORT – ranking by support activities such as first aid, deploying vehicles, etc.
  • TACTICAL – ranking soldiers based on their tactical performance.

  • First Aid Kits visualizations:

New in Heroes & Generals 1.04 Engine Room (Mar 10, 2017)

  • Better performance:
  • In the community’s tests of the new render we have seen a 20 percent framerate improvement on average. In the latest test on the prototype server, 70 percent of the players that took part reported either a better or much better performance.
  • As you might know Heroes & Generals is running on its own proprietary technology called Retox, and with the ‘Engine Room’-update the render engine code has been completely rewritten.
  • This was done in order to optimize it for a modern dataflow by using advanced multi-threading techniques so it better utilizes multiple CPU-cores, improving game performance.
  • No more DirectX 9:
  • Update 1.04 is a farewell to DirectX 9. We decided to end support for DirectX 9 based graphics cards. In part because most (if not all) machines with DirectX 9-only cards are too old to run the game properly. But more importantly the old technology served as a hindrance to game performance.
  • Mixed resolution rendering:
  • The new render engine now has a feature where resolution and render resolution are split into two! This means that you can lower the render resolution while still keeping the user interface and overlays in your monitor’s native resolution. This is a way to get a better frame rate without hurting the graphics card too much. The game then scales the 3D render to fit the screen resolution. You find this in the settings in the action game, and you can always press F7 (default key) to see the current FPS and Ping in the action game.
  • Crisper colors:
  • The ‘Engine Room’-update introduces a new tone mapping system to Heroes & Generals providing crisper and more saturated colors in the game – so take your time to enjoy the sunset.
  • Temporal Anti-Aliasing:
  • In this update you have the option of a new anti-aliasing method called Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA). What TAA does is that it uses the previous frame to anti-alias the current one thus giving a better looking image. The main visible effect is a much more stable image with less pixel flicker when in motion. This also helps smooth the image if running a lower render resolution than screen resolution.
  • Other Changes:
  • Here is a list of some additional features in the Update 1.04 ‘Engine Room’.
  • When playing at night have a look at the sky – stars are now visible overhead.
  • Heroes & Generals now available in Brazilian Portuguese translation[heroesandgenerals.com]
  • We have given you the option to try out a new DirectX 12 experimental setting. But as it is experimental it can yield very different results for individual players.
  • Updated Anti-Cheat

New in Heroes & Generals 1.03 Wings of War (Feb 1, 2017)

  • New Plane Controls:
  • Flying a plane with the new default controls is basically as easy as aiming the mouse at where you want to go – we call this mouse aim mode.
  • You also have the option of using a camera aim mode as well as classic controls. And you can change how the throttle works, all to suit your individual play style.
  • We know that It takes skills to be a good pilot. That is why we have chosen to add different types of flight control options in the ‘Wings of War’-update making it fun to be a pilot for both new and veteran players.
  • Three new planes:
  • Three new planes are taking off in the 1.03 update ‘Wings of War’ – two heavy fighters and a medium fighter.
  • Soviet pilots get to fly the new Petlyakov Pe-3bis and German pilots can take off in the new Messerschmitt Me 410B-2. Both of these planes are heavy fighters.
  • Meanwhile American pilots get a brand new Curtiss P40N Warhawk Medium Fighter, as their current US P-38 now takes its proper place as a heavy fighter.

  • The new Heavy Fighters (and the upgraded P-38) flies in the Heavy Fighter Squadron assault team. You can now upgrade an assault team from Fighter Recon, to Fighter Squadron and then to Heavy Fighter Squadron.
  • Heavy Fighters uses a separate resource production, just like the other types of planes.
  • Update to Factory Map:
  • A number of tweaks have been made to the the Factory Map to make it safer to deploy without getting attacked instantly.
  • Based on heatmaps and replays of how the map plays, our Level Designer Reto.Desji has also changed some routes through the buildings to improve the flow of the gameplay and make it more fun for both attacker and defender.
  • New paint jobs for old planes:
  • It is cool to be a great pilot. It is even better when you look good while flying.
  • This is why the the three fighter planes, that have seen the most air time in Heroes & Generals, are getting brand new paint jobs and new factory paint jobs.
  • If you already own a Yak-9, Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 or US P-38 Lightning you will get to keep and use the old factory paint jobs – something that will set you apart as a veteran pilot.
  • Other Changes:
  • Here is a list of some additional features in the 1.03 – Wings of War update.
  • War had to be ended – in order to introduce the Heavy Fighter Assault Team and ensure production resources we had to end the war.

  • Yet another much demanded tweak, which does not seem like a big change, but improves the gameplay for every ground soldier: it will be possible to switch from prone to crouch in one smooth transition, by holding down the [CTRL] key (default crouch key) while tapping the [Z] key (default prone toggle) again to get up.
  • This is useful when it's important that you don't stick your head out too much, as illustrated above ;)
  • In addition to this, new footstep/rustling sounds will be added, which activate when turning, both standing up and crouching.
  • Camera Movement:
  • Every Fighter Pilot is going to like this: We made adjustments to the Freecam on planes!
  • Now the camera will maintain its relative position to the aircraft.
  • More exciting news and features from the upcoming Bauer update to be released soon - so stay tuned!

New in Heroes & Generals Adams Update (Jan 19, 2016)

  • WEAPON TWEAKS:
  • We have been digging through the stats for a while, listened (and read) a lot of feedback & talked to a number of players, and we have decided on a few tweaks to help improve the feel of the gunplay in the game. Most notably we are adjusting a number of values around the semi-auto rifles (the Gewehr 43, M1 Garand & Tokarev SVT-40) to make them more valuable as weapons for both new players and veterans.
  • Semi-Auto Rifle adjustments:
  • The main changes to the way semi-auto rifles are used are that progress on the Specialist ribbons now move 25% faster, so when the Adams update hits the servers you will progress faster. We have also lowered the price on the boosters for these rifles. These two changes makes it easier for new players to progress on the weapon and unlock their first weapon upgrades for them. For the more experienced veteran players a few tweaks also helps make the semi-auto rifles an even stronger option for fighting on the medium range. We have decreased the ‘negative’ effects on the SA-rifle upgrades by about 30% and we have added a new upgrade – the “Scout II-s barrel” for SA-rifles that produces more range with a slight hit on stability. This upgrade helps make the SA-rifles a bit better at range and helps reduce the gap between semi-auto and bolt-action rifles.
  • For all rifles we are modifying the values on some of the rifle ammo upgrades by increasing the range of high-damage rifle ammo Bertie clay, S.m.K.Hart, and Heavy D a bit.
  • Ribbon Boosters:
  • In addition to the changes to the Semi-Auto rifles we have also tweaked how the ribbon boosters work. So apart from lowering the price of the SA-rifle specialist ribbon booster, we have also lowered price of the entry level tank specialist boosters to help beginning tankers get rolling a bit faster. AND we have overall lowered gold prices on most boosters (except Driver & Chauffeur) by approximately 25% WHILE also raising the boost-% to 75% from 50%.
  • Submachine Guns:
  • In addition to the above-mentioned changes to the SA-rifles we are also tweaking the SMGs a little. The balancing tweaks consists mainly of slightly reducing their effectiveness at range and ONLY at range. This helps reduce the SMG-sniping that we have received a lot of complaints about and focus the SMGs on their core use as close quarters weapons. This is done by changing the ranges for damage fall-off and by making precision/stability a lot more dependent on rate of fire.
  • Unlocks:
  • To help ease new players into the game and not let them immediately drown in a rain of grenades, we have removed hand grenades from the default loadout of infantry soldiers and moved them to be the first unlock on the Infantry Assault Ribbon at ribbon rank 3. In addition we have moved first SMG unlock to infantry assault level 4 (from 5) and moved bolt-action rifle unlocks to infantry assault level 6 (from 2). This was done as previously you unlocked bolt-action rifles and THEN SMGs which added unnecessary difficulties for new players where they bought bolt-action rifles before they had the skills to use them. We have also moved some of the captured AT mines and AT grenades 1 rank down in order to spread the unlocks out.

New in Heroes & Generals 14.01.2016 Update (Jan 14, 2016)

  • Soviet Mobile AA is rolling in with the Adams update:
  • Straight from the factories comes this symbol of Soviet ingenuity! By mounting an Anti-Aircraft gun on a truck chassis we have added mobility to the AA!
  • In the coming update named Adams (after the American hero Lucian Adams) comes the GAZ-AAA M-4 Maxim mobile AA truck.
  • The Gorkiy Auto Zavod-AAA Anti-Aircraft truck is a Soviet tri-axial truck mounted with a quad Maxim M-4 Anti-Aircraft gun. Although the M-4 is designed for use against low-flying aircraft it is also an excellent infantry support vehicle taking out enemy cars and unarmored (or light armored) vehicles.
  • How do I get my hands on this fantastic machine:
  • The GAZ-AAA truck unlocks at Chauffeur rank 11 for infantry and is equipped as an “Infantry Support Vehicle” and is equipped in the same place as the M3 Half-track. So you get to choose between having a mobile deploy vehicle where your team-mates can spawn or an anti-air weapon instead.
  • ARMAMENT:
  • The GAZ-AAA is armed with four PM M1910 Machineguns in the same M-4 setup as the stationary Soviet anti-air gun. The way the gun is mounted on the truck bed allows the gunner to move the weapon very quickly and allows him to bring the machineguns on target faster than the competition and also makes it easier to track fast moving targets.
  • Where did this thing come from:
  • The chassis is actually the same base as the Ba-6 that the recons use to such great effect. This was the first Soviet 6×4 truck and based upon the the famous 4×2 “Polutorka” GAZ-AA, the first GAZ-AAAs left the production halls of the “Gorkiy Auto Zavod” (Gorkiy Auto Factory) at the end of 1934.
  • It proved as robust and reliable as its smaller counterpart and stayed in production for almost 10 years with a total of 37,000 built.
  • Its chassis served as the base for many other tasks, among them as AA truck carrying the 37mm 61-K gun, as self-propelled 76mm field gun (SU-12), as ambulance and mobile workshop.

  • This brand-new update brings a much requested new feature – a brand new map! The update is named Utz
  • New Map: Forward Airfield:
  • The new map is an assault map called ‘Forward Airfield‘ and it represents the small forward airfields built all over Europe during the war. We have published a handful of blogposts detailing the objective on the map so click the links to learn more about 'the village church', 'the bridge and village' & 'the airstrip' itself.
  • Weapon Tweaks:
  • We have made a handful of tweaks to weapon handling of grenades, semi-auto rifles and LMGs. Read more about the tweaks here!
  • Character Update:
  • This update also brings an update to the characters in the game. They now look much better running and when standing on sloped terrain due to the improved IK and banking. We have also adjusted the control of the character while jumping to make it look and feel better.
