What's new in Anno 1404: Venice Unofficial Patch 1.10

Jan 15, 2013
  • Renamed Helena’s home city to “Honortown” from “Honore” to avoid some USA/EUR issues and to make it more of a settlement name.
  • Restored name for “Well-Greased Mill Wheel” item (GUID 8746) that was never translated from German and would appear blank in-game. This is a quest reward item in Venice, although I also changed the one reference to it to the Venice version of the item (GUID 40000040) purely for consistency.
  • Northburgh’s quest “Cool Expedition” (GUID 8050686) renamed to “Chilling Ventures”.
  • Northburgh’s quest “Curiosity” (GUID 8050545) renamed to “A Dwelling Curiosity” to be clever.
  • Northburgh’s quest “Warmongers” (GUID 8050731) renamed to “Arms Profits” to better match text.
  • The Emperor’s quest “Deserters” (GUID 8050749) renamed to “Deserters of the State” to add more flavor.
  • Lucius’ quest “Befitting” (GUID 5750092) renamed to “Befitting Glittering” to give more context.
  • Constanza’s quest “Honorable” (GUID 6050080) renamed to “Honorable Understandings” to give more context.
  • Lucius’s quest “Not Unpunished” (GUID 5750044) typo (mine) fixed so Lucius’s name displays properly in the quest text.
  • Forcas’s Venice quest “Non Violence” (GUID 40835024) now requires you first build a Base of Operations so that this quest won’t be given if you have disabled Espionage.
  • The Sultan’s quest “Letter of Marque” (GUID 8150320) XML changed to only spawn two ships to destroy, not three, in order to match the quest text.
  • The Sultan’s quest “False Flags of War” (GUID 8350054) XML changed to spawn “Strong Enemy Oriental Warships” not “Enemy Large Warships” since the quest text is about Ships pretending to be from the Orient.
  • Barnabas’s quest “The Queen’s Ship” (GUID 5308017) has been changed from a “Kill Ships” quest to a “Catch Ship” quest in order to fix a few issues and to better match the text. Now the Ship won’t fight back, being a Large Trading Ship, and a Castaway will drop that must be returned to Barnabas to match the quest text.
  • The Sultan’s quest “Rogue Captains” (GUID 8450046) changed to spawn 4 total ships instead of 6. Each ship must be destroyed. This was changed to fit the text that indicated all ships should be destroyed.
  • The Sultan’s extensive quest chain “The Planned Coup d’état” has been updated to change “Corsairs” to “Oriental Warriors” and such since this is what actually is used.
  • Changed Barnabas’s quest “The Queen’s Ship” (GUID 5308017) to use a new quest objective text indicating to bring back the “High Official” instead of saying “Proof” since the quest gave a “Castaway” not a “Flag” as proof. Story text changed to match this too.
  • The Sultan’s Venice extensive quest “Cultural Exchange IV” (GUID 40803025) has been fixed to properly assign a boarding crew item and also to board a “Strong Oriental Trading Ship” (GUID 15931) instead of the incorrect “Oriental Trading Fleet II” (GUID 15940), which is a ship type used by Al Zahir for trading with you.
  • Garibaldi’s Venice quest “Making Good” (GUID 40650137) has been changed to deliver goods to the ship type “Large Trading Ship” (GUID 15914) instead of the incorrect “Escort Large Warship” (15937).
  • Al Zahir’s Venice quest “Nothing like the Real Thing” (GUID 40844086) changed to allow players to deny it. This should prevent it from automatically starting without warning if you have a ship by his Harbor.
  • Changed Karim’s “Disloyal Assistant I & II” to properly use starting quest audio instead of finishing quest audio when the quest is first given.
  • Changed Ibn’s extensive quest “The Sultan Ship I” (GUID 5302050) to display the proper “thanks you for completing this part of the Extensive Quest” instead of incorrectly saying you finished the entire Extensive Quest.
  • Added proper aiprofile.xml entries for Ibn’s extensive quest “The Sultan Ship II” (GUID 5302053) so the quest is identified as an Extensive Quest for both the offer and finish messages.
  • Changed the cooldown timer on the “Smoke Out Enemy Spy” tooltip to use the proper cooldown variable since it previously incorrectly used the Spy Infiltration cooldown, which resulted in a constant 0:00 displayed. Nice find me, nice find.
  • Restored the Emperor’s Spearman (GUID 11010, guarding His residence) unit’s missing unit icon; I used the Imperial Cathedral icon to represent his royal guard status.
  • Changed “demand Auxiliary Fleet” to “request Auxiliary Fleet” to match other places and nature of request.
  • The term “Expedition” has been standardized to always refer to ships using map items to leave the known world on an expedition. When the quest involves searching islands in the game world, the term “Search Party” is now always used in the text to match the audio.
  • Changed AI message from “you cannot keep up with their progress” to “you cannot keep up with their might” since this is about military power, not civilization progress.
  • Fixed Beggar accept/reject messages to remove an extraneous “A” so it won’t say “A A Nobleman is angry…”.
  • Changed Troop defeated message to remove city name reference since in-game it displayed as blank since it is apparently broken.
  • Changed Willem’s AI response to being more powerful than you so that it always increases your reputation with him as it should since all the Easy AIs are meant to react in a positive manner.
  • Changed Lucius’s AI response to settling on his island to greatly decrease your reputation, just like all the other Hard AI players. The default used a “SetReputation_01” variable not used anywhere else. This may have been a bug.
  • Created slight variants of several AI reaction messages to better fit whether you lose or gain reputation with them. I also added the proper “You suffer:” or “You receive:” text to give context to the reputation change. This applies to settling AI islands, deploying troops on their islands, and a few other situations.
  • Changed Lucius’ major Quest achievement text (GUID 20120325) to say “Settle Noblemen and then complete” instead of “Build a Metropolis and then complete”. This was done to match my other v1.10 change to the quest precondition.
  • Changed Leif’s major Quest achievement text (GUID 20120326) to say “Settle Noblemen and then complete” instead of “Build a Metropolis and then complete”. This was done to match my other v1.10 change to the quest precondition.
  • Changed Willem’s major Quest achievement text (GUID 20120327) to say “Settle Noblemen and then complete” instead of “Build a Metropolis and then complete”. This was done to match my other v1.10 change to the quest precondition.
  • Changed Constanza’s major Quest achievement text (GUID 2012032cool to say “Settle Noblemen and then complete” instead of “Build a Metropolis and then complete”. This was done to match my other v1.10 change to the quest precondition.
  • Changed Giovanni’s major Quest achievement text (GUID 20120329) to say “Settle Noblemen and then complete” instead of “Build a Metropolis and then complete”. This was done to match my other v1.10 change to the quest precondition.
  • Changed Helena’s major Quest achievement text (GUID 20120330) to say “Settle Noblemen and then complete” instead of “Build a Metropolis and then complete”. This was done to match my other v1.10 change to the quest precondition.
  • Changed Forcas’ major Quest achievement text (GUID 20120331) to say “Settle Noblemen and then complete” instead of “Build a Metropolis and then complete”. This was done to match my other v1.10 change to the quest precondition.
  • Changed Constanza’s quest “Honorable” (GUID 6050080) to only require settling Noblemen instead of building a Metropolis. This was done to make it much more likely to get this quest since by the time you build a Metropolis you very well may have accumulated too much Honor to be given the quest.
  • Changed Giovanni’s quest “Measure the Empire” (GUID 615007cool to also require settling Noblemen instead of simply requiring an Alliance. This was done to make it match all other AI major quests.
  • Changed Giovanni’s quest “A Lasting Sign of Success” (GUID 6150080) to only require settling Noblemen instead of building a Metropolis. This was done to make it much more likely to get this quest since by the time you build a Metropolis you very well may have already built a Historic Warehouses.
  • Changed Helena’s quest “Power to the Peasants” (GUID 6250063) to only require settling Noblemen instead of building a Metropolis. This was done to make it much more likely to get this quest since by the time you build a Metropolis you very well may have settled too many Peasants to be given the quest.
  • Changed Helena’s quest “Support from Faith” (GUID 6250065) to only require settling Noblemen instead of building a Metropolis. This was done to make it much more likely to get this quest since by the time you build a Metropolis you very well may have already built a Sultan’s Mosque.
  • Changed “Win Condition: Settle 2000 Noblemen” (GUID 8050813) quest to automatically disable Forcas’s “Popular Government” (Settle 3000 Noblemen, GUID 6350074) quest since it is impossible to complete. Other Win Condition quests already properly disable conflicting quests but this was missed by the developers.
  • Changed all three of Marie’s major quests (GUIDs 5550128, 5550131, and 5550133) to only require settling Noblemen instead of building a Metropolis. This was done to make it much more likely to get these quests since by the time you build a Metropolis you very well may have already met the quest goals.
  • Changed both of Gavin’s major quests (GUIDs 5650078 & 5650081) to only require settling Noblemen instead of building a Metropolis. This was done to make it much more likely to get these quests since by the time you build a Metropolis you very well may have already met the quest goals.
  • Changed two of Lucius’ major quests (GUIDs 5750092 & 575009cool to only require settling Noblemen instead of building a Metropolis (the third already was just Noblemen). This was done to make it much more likely to get these quests since by the time you build a Metropolis you very well may have already met the quest goals.
  • Edited XML for quest GUID 5750092 to explicitly state 500,000 gold win condition; no in-game effect but makes debugging XML easier.
  • Changed several quests so that the initial quest offer prompt will always display even if you already have met the requirements to complete the quest. This was done because previously all the player would see is a message showing the reward, such as 1200 Honor, which was very confusing without any proper context (some players previously thought the reward was a bug). Quests changed: Lucius’ “Befitting Glittering” (GUID 5750092), Giovanni’s “Measure the Empire” (GUID 615007cool , Constanza’s “Honorable Understandings” (GUID 6050080), Constanza’s “Grand Recognition” (GUID 6050082), Gavin’s “Comrades in Cause” (GUID 40801010), (GUID 40814016), Willem’s “Golden Assistance” (GUID 4081401cool , Constanza’s (GUID 40823010), Guy’s (GUID 40835020), Guy’s (GUID 40835022), Guy’s (GUID 40835024), Giovanni’s (GUID 40820011), Giovanni’s (GUID 40820013), Hildegard’s (GUID 40844020), Helena’s (GUID 40827015).
  • A few quests had unnecessary “ShowIfReachedAtStart” variables. I’ve removed these, even though it makes no in-game difference. GUIDs changed: 5550128, 5550133, 5650078, 5750098, 5950137, 8250609.
  • There are six Venice multiplayer quests that used quest names from other non-Venice quests plus had no quest story texts (GUIDs 40650412, 40650413, 40650414, 40650415, 40650416, 40650417). I’ve created new names for these quests along with new story texts (GUIDs 40650460, 40650461, 40650462, 40650463, 40650464, 40650465) since these quests are unique.
  • More grammar fixes in a few quest texts.

New in Anno 1404: Venice Unofficial Patch 1.09 (Nov 29, 2012)

  • Actually fixed “The False Chroniclers III” (GUID 8450104) to be a find Spy wanted person quest instead of a damaged ship quest. Prior versions allowed quest progression but was mismatched.
  • Actually fixed “The False Chroniclers VI” (GUID 8450113) to ask you to deliver the chroniclers to Northburgh’s warehouse, not Al Zahir’s warehouse!
  • Hildegard’s achievement text for completing her major quest (GUID 122844) updated to no longer say “Build a Metropolis” but “Settle Noblemen” since version 1.08 of my patch changed this requirement.
  • Capitalized “Damage” and “Reload Time” when used in their proper gameplay sense.
  • Added fun achievement one-liners to the save and load achievements.
  • Random Inhabitant quest “High Stakes” (GUID 6603412) quest-giver changed to “An Anxious Inhabitant” from “A Fearful Noblemen” since this is a Citizen giving the quest.
  • Leif’s quest “Creative Solitude” (GUID 5850105) gave the player a Small Shipyard Construction Plan item upon accepting the quest. This has been removed since there’s no reason for it.
  • Leif’s extensive quest “Leif’s Sister I” (GUID 5850052) is now able to be declined.
  • The Emperor’s quest “The Feast” renamed to “The Obligatory Feast” to distinguish it from other quests.
  • The Sultan’s extensive quest “Influenza with Consequences V” (GUID 8450128) had the wrong quest objective text and now correctly states the “Escort a Ship out of this region…” instead of the wrong “Sail a Ship to…”.
  • Hassan’s quest “Victory condition: destroy Player” (GUID 8250609) renamed to “Wipe 'em Off the Map” and actual quest story text as added instead of also saying “Victory condition: destroy Player”. Note that the German version also uses this incorrect text instead of suitable story text and quest title.
  • Lucius’ extensive quest chain “The Devil’s Work” text had duplicate part III’s but now properly goes from I-VII.
  • Garibaldi’s quest “Friend and Foe” renamed to “Foe and Friend?” to better match text.
  • Leif’s extensive quest “Leif’s Sister” changed behind the scenes in order to ensure the quest name displays properly (replaced QUEST_SENDER with “Leif”).
  • The Emperor’s extensive quest “Thirst for Knowledge III” item for successful mapping has been changed from “Notice” to “Report” since the original item is specific to a chess game quest.
  • The Sultan’s Venice extensive quest “Thirst for Knowledge” has been renamed to “The Sultan's New Glass” because there was already an extensive quest for the Emperor with the same name. Plus the name wasn’t really accurate since this quest is about making special Glass, not thirsting for knowledge.
  • Quest objective “Attain the following Achievement” changed to “Acquire the following Attainment” since it is actually an Attainment, not Achievement.
  • Number of Market Carts sent out tooltip changed to numeral instead of alphabet.
  • Added “Founds a Settlement” to the building Tooltips for Warehouses.
  • Reverted my name change of “Rusted Coffin Ship” to “Coffin Ship” since the game actually only uses this ship for all Coffin Ships, hence “Rusted” is not always applicable.
  • Grammar fix for achievement name “The Left and Right Wooden Legs of the Devil” instead of original “Wooden Leg” (GUID 122925).
  • Standardized some Attainment descriptions and added bullet points for readability.
  • Renamed the helper quest “Needs in a Metropolis” to “Needs in a Refined City” since this quest triggers upon the first Noblemen or Envoys moving in, not upon reaching a Metropolis (GUID 8151189).
  • The “Demand Tribute” text has been changed to “Demands a sum of Coin be paid to you” from the strange “Offers a chance for additional Income”.
  • Diplomatic action text has been changed from saying “X is being” to “X will be” since the message still must be confirmed by you.
  • Diplomatic action text for tributes changed to say “exchange Gold Coins for Reputation” instead of just saying “pay Gold Coins”.
  • Updated the building tooltips for the Small, Large, and Oriental Shipyards and the Historic Warehouses to say “Must be built in a Harbor Area” instead of incorrectly saying “Must be built on the Coast”.
  • The item text “…properties of a Ship are enhanced by having these X on board” changed to “…properties of a Ship are enhanced by having this X on board” since every item is singular.
  • Renamed “The Accursed Knife-Wielder” item to “Blackbeard the Accursed” since this item is linked with the “Redbeard” item and the achievement to recruit “the devil’s duo”. Now these two people have proper names, just like the other four Tier 10 achievement-linked Items. The text for this item also said “his name is only whispered” indicating he should have a name. I also gave him an edited icon to give him a black beard and purple-ish hat with gold trim to show his importance.
  • Renamed “Snarling Corsair” to “Knife-Wielding Corsair” since “Knife-Wielder” was removed from the renamed Blackbeard item and I wanted to keep it since it is great. Plus there was already a “Scowling” item and “Snarling” was too similar to it. I also changed his item text from “Who can stop him?” to “He’s a real cut-up…” since it is more fun.
  • Renamed “Crazy Ship’s Cook” to “Crazed Ship’s Cook” since it is more fitting.
  • Renamed “Refined Customs Officer” to “Well-Dressed Customs Officer” to indicate he levies duties for all clothing items.
  • Renamed “Cheerful Customs Officer” to “Spirited Customs Officer” since there already was a “Cheery” officer. Plus this indicates in a funny way that he levies duties for alcohol.
  • Renamed “Assiduous Oriental Customs Officer” to “Refined Oriental Customs Officer” and renamed “Zealous Customs Officer” to “Assiduous Customs Officer”. This was done since the Oriental officer deals with luxury goods and the Occidental officer deals with basic building materials, which lends itself much more toward the boring definition of “assiduous”.
  • Changed item text for “Deaf Cannoneer” (GUID 10008469) from boring “Huh?!?!” to “Silently reloading…”.
  • Changed Redbeard’s item description (GUID 10008517) to remove the strange nearly black and unreadable text that said “Having a Corsair veteran on board improves various Ship features.” First, this note is obvious since the item itself lists its benefits. Second, there are countless items that improve various Ship features but don’t have this note. Hence, I think the developers didn’t mean for this to be there.
  • Changed item text for “Lord Ludwig the Crazed” (GUID 10008269) from “Solid as a rock!” to “His madness is his greatest weapon!” since the first description wasn’t fitting plus it overlapped with the extensive quest of the same name.
  • Changed item text for “Captain Claude Homebird” (GUID 10008136) from “Sailed to the edge of the world and beyond…” to “Has sailed to the edge of the world and beyond!”.
  • Changed item text for “Small Powder Keg” (GUID 10008042) from “Small but nasty!” to “Small but deadly!”.
  • Changed item text for “Plugged Powder Keg” (GUID 10008326) from “Hands off!” to “Keep hands at a safe distance!”.
  • Changed item text for “High-Explosive Powder Keg” (GUID 10008125) from “Boooom!” to “A barrel brimming with boom!”.
  • Changed item text for “Insane Powder Keg” (GUID 10008126) from “Small radius, huge impact!” to “A keg of mass destruction!”.
  • Changed item text for “Portly Oriental Customs Officer” (GUID 10008353) from “He really liked delicacies” to “He really likes dainty delicacies”.
  • Changed item text for “Well-Dressed Customs Officer” (GUID 10008356) from “Knows all about fine Cloth” to “Knows all about the finest fabrics”.
  • Changed item text for “Dapper Customs Officer” (GUID 10008357) from “Everything in order here” to “He keeps everything in perfect order”.
  • Changed item text for “Zealous (originally Assiduous) Oriental Customs Officer” (GUID 10008358) from “Familiar with the precious items from the Occident” to “Quite fond of posh styles” since he deals with luxury Oriental items.
  • Changed item text for “Spirited (originally Cheerful) Customs Officer” (GUID 10008559) from “Loves a chin-wag” to “Loves people, drink, and life in general!”
  • Reworded the achievement text for the Blackbeard/Redbeard achievement (GUID 122925) to say “recruit both legendary Corsair Captains” instead of “recruit these Corsair Captains”.
  • Reworded the achievement text for the two Imperial Captains achievement (GUID 122867) to say “recruit both Imperial Naval Captains” instead of “recruit these Imperial Captains”.
  • Reworded the achievement text for the two Imperial Generals achievement (GUID 122868) to say “recruit both Imperial Generals” instead of “recruit these Imperial Generals”.
  • Changed item description for “Scar-Faced Captain” from the generic “The Ship has to be able to take this!” to “His twisted exterior hides a sincere heart.” sensitive cultured
  • Changed item description for “One-Armed Captain” from “Has the Ship firmly under control!” to “Runs a tight Ship, single-handedly.” because I just couldn’t resist.
  • Changed item descriptions for almost all Customs Duty items because most of them incorrectly described the Good itself rather than the fact that you are imposing a fee on merchants requiring them to give you free Goods. A few were changed to be more clever or fun.
  • Renamed item description for Envoy Licenses item from “Knowledge is Power” to “Lords of the Sand” to distinguish it from the quest name and achievement both called “Knowledge is Power”.
  • Renamed “Notice” item (GUID 8562) to “Strategic Advice” since it is more fitting.
  • Renamed “Closely Written Balance Sheet Book” item (GUID 8643) to “Carefully Written Balance Sheet Book”.
  • The gameplay term “Speed” has been capitalized everywhere.
  • Edited the text notification about a Spy trying to incite revolt (GUID 40725007) to say the spy is “attempting to incite” instead of incorrectly stating the Spy was inciting revolt since success was still uncertain.
  • Standardized the term “Incite Revolt” instead of the rarely used “Foment Revolt”.
  • Standardized the term “Spy” instead of using “Henchman” since the game used both but Spy is more accurate.
  • Changed gameplay term to “Smoke out Enemy Spy” instead of “Smoke out Enemy Safe House”. This was done because the goal is to smoke out the Spy.
  • Changed gameplay term to “Infiltrate House” instead of the occasionally used “Infiltrate Building” since this new term is more accurate and less confusing.
  • Changed infiltration not possible tooltip (GUID 60121074) to clarify “Citizens or above” must live there, not just “Citizens”.
  • Standardized “X not Possible” instead of the few places that said “X Impossible”.
  • Changed wording for uncovering Safe Houses achievement (GUID 40100509 ) to say “uncover X enemy Safe Houses” instead of awkward “enemy-infiltrated Houses”.
  • Changed “send out a Watchman” to “send out Watchmen” since you actually send out a group of them.
  • Renamed “Reliable Spy” (GUID 41400007) to “Master Spy” since this character needs a more powerful name since he’s the chief Spy who tells you things.
  • Edited the loading screen tip that referred to “Adjust Camouflage Pattern” for Bases of Operations (GUID 40103505) since this function does not exist.
  • Edited the loading screen tip for speeding up the game to also now tell the player they can slow down the game by pressing “X” key.
  • Edited the loading screen tip for Multiplayer informing the player they can’t speed up or slow down the game (GUID 40103761). Now the tip lists the keys bound to these functions and informs the player they won’t work. This fixes the issue of the original loading tip display game binding data incorrectly.
  • Attainments helper quest (GUID 8051325) changed to include Venetian attainments in the list of possible attainments. Nice find me!
  • The word “Blueprint” has been changed to “Sketches” in all places since blueprint wasn’t used until the late 1800s. Accurate history, ho!
  • Hassan’s fraternization quest “The Feast” renamed to “The Abiding Feast” to spice it up a bit.
  • Made the words “crew” and “sailor” lowercase instead of capitalized since these are not proper gameplay terms.
  • Anno Venice includes extensive quests for Garibaldi, the Emperor, and the Sultan, but none of the announcement (start) or completion texts refer to these quests as extensive quests but rather label them as regular quests. This is because the developers didn’t include any of the necessary “aiprofiles” XML tags for each quest. I’ve added tags under QUEST_STARTED and QUEST_FINISHED for every Venice extensive quest. This includes all 23 extensive quest parts for Garibaldi added to the addon_01_aiprofiles.xml file. This also includes 18 Emperor and 18 Sultan extensive quest parts added to the original aiprofiles.xml file.
  • Several extensive quests didn’t have the correct extensive quest final part completion text (GUID 5400123) but rather used non-extensive quest text (GUID 5400164). This has been corrected by editing the “aiprofiles” XML file. Quests fixed: Key to Peace II (GUID 8051274), Chess Game II (GUID 8051283), Gift II (GUID 8051284), Stolen Writings II (GUID 8051287), War Looms II (GUID 8151195), Secret Message II (GUID 8151196), Documentation II (GUID 8151197), Prohibited Zone II (GUID 8151204).
  • The Sultan’s extensive quest “Influenza with Consequences V” (GUID 8450128) didn’t have the correct extensive quest final part completion text (GUID 8325010) but rather used non-extensive quest text (GUID 5400164). This has been corrected by editing the “aiprofiles” XML file.
  • The Sultan’s extensive quest “Extradition II” (GUID 8450188) didn’t have the correct extensive quest final part completion text (GUID 8325010) but rather used non-extensive quest text (GUID 5400164). This has been corrected by editing the “aiprofiles” XML file.
  • Several Emperor and Sultan extensive quests didn’t have the correct extensive quest partial completion text (GUID 8325009) but rather used incorrect non-extensive quest completion text (GUID 5400164). This has been corrected by editing the “aiprofiles” XML files. Quests fixed: Extradition I (GUID 8350202), Confidant I (GUID 8350203), Dress Alliance I (GUID 8350206), Recovery I (GUID 8450186), Confession I (GUID 8450191), Manhunt I (GUID 8450194).
  • Added extensive quest part I start text for “Fitting Thanks I” (GUID 8151198) and final part text for “Fitting Thanks II” (GUID 8051282) to aiprofiles.xml. Part II was fixed by replacing a start text for an unused quest (GUID 8051288). Also added extensive quest partial completion text (GUID 5400130) for “Fitting Thanks I”.
  • Added proper extensive quest final part completion text for GUIDs 8051282, 8350201, 8350205, 8350208, 8450190, 8450193 by creating a new X entries in aiprofiles.xml.
  • Added proper extensive quest part I start text for GUIDs 8350202, 8350203, 8350206 by creating a new X entries in aiprofiles.xml.
  • Extensive quest start text for “War Looms II” (GUID 8151195), “Secret Message II” (GUID 8151196), “Documentation II” (GUID 8151197), and “Prohibited Zone II” (GUID 8151204) changed from incorrect GUID 5400128 to GUID 5400165.
  • The extensive quest start text for all the final parts of the joint quests has been reword to now say “X awaits your arrival for the final part of the Extensive Quest: QUEST NAME” instead of just saying “X awaits your arrival”.
  • Added a new text line (GUID 8325010) for completing the final part of royal extensive quests (Emperor and Sultan). Instead of just saying “X kindly thanks you” (GUID 8325004) it now says “X deeply thanks you for completing the Extensive Quest and gives you a royal reward”. Now the original line is only used for royal non-extensive quests. This required changing QUEST_FINISHED tags for all 22 royal extensive quests from the base game.
  • Fixed extensive quest start text for “United Forces IV” (GUID 8350183) by deleting the extra aiprofiles.xml record and fixing the other to use the right audio pool (NI_QuestStarted).
  • Fixed extensive quest completion text for “United Forces IV” (GUID 8350183) by adding the right text (GUID 8325010) tag to aiprofiles.xml.
  • Fixed extensive quest completion text for “The False Chroniclers II & III” (GUIDs 8450101 & 8450104) by adding the right text (GUID 8325009) tags to aiprofiles.xml.
  • Fixed extensive quest start text for “The False Chroniclers II & III” (GUIDs 8450101 & 8450104) by adding the right text (GUID 8325007) tags to aiprofiles.xml and fixing to use the right audio pool for Neutral Harbors (NI_QuestStarted) instead of the incorrect one used for NPC players (QuestStart).
  • Fixed extensive quest completion text for “The False Coat of Arms IV” (GUID 8450157) by changing the text line from 8325004 to 8325009. This fixes the issue where the Sultan told you the extensive quest was completed even though part V was remaining. Also fixed the extensive quest start text so it also doesn’t incorrectly say this is the final part of the extensive quest (GUID changed from 8325008 to 8325007).
  • Fixed extensive quest completion and start text for “The False Coat of Arms V” (GUID 8450197) by adding text tags to aiprofiles.xml in the right places.
  • Added proper extensive quest announcement and completion text for Al Zahir’s “The Stranger I-IV” (GUIDs 8150118, 8150120, 8150123, 8150125) extensive quest that I restored in a prior version of my patch.
  • Fixed extensive quest start text for “Harmony III” (GUID 8450176) by deleting the extra aiprofiles.xml record and fixing the other to use the right audio pool (NI_QuestStarted).
  • Fixed extensive quest completion text for “Harmony III” (GUID 8450176) by adding the right text (GUID 8325009) tag to aiprofiles.xml.
  • Fixed “Insane Corsair” multiplayer continuous game setup tooltip to actually use the correct pressed and normal tooltips.
  • Restored the Sultan’s Spearman (guarding His residence) unit’s missing unit icon; I used the Sultan’s Mosque icon to represent his royal guard status.
  • Renamed “Ambassador” inhabitant to “Envoy” in two places since Envoy is the proper term.
  • Fixed a number of Readme grammar issues and sorted quests changes by functional changes and purely cosmetic text changes.
  • Fixed the text to singular in a few places with the “Wanted Persons” modded patch in version 1.08.
  • Other interface, tooltips, and assorted text improvements.
  • More quest text grammar fixes and improvements.

New in Anno 1404: Venice Unofficial Patch 1.08 (Oct 10, 2012)

  • Grammar fixes for about 20 quests (thanks Mastada for pointing them all out!).
  • The Sultan’s blockade quest “Moneybags” (GUID 845006cool now uses Enemy Oriental Warships (GUID 15927) instead of Enemy Oriental Trading Ships (GUID 15930) so that the ships will actually attack!
  • The Emperor’s blockade quest “Betrayed by Kin” (GUID 8350066) now uses Strong Enemy Oriental Warships (GUID 15931) instead of Strong Enemy Oriental Trading Ships (GUID 15931) so that the ships will actually attack!
  • Hildegard had a quest (GUID 6450081) that had a blank title and quest text (GUID 6450082). I’ve translated it and now it is properly called “Always More Orphans” and has quest text.
  • Leif’s Venice quest “The Credulous Artist” (GUID 4080500cool now displays quest text. The developers had a typo, preventing the quest text from displaying.
  • Ibn Al Hakim’s “The Ghost Ship II” (GUID 5302020) quest logic changed to note 3 Alchemists must be found, hoping this will fix the “find one and the other two are magically found also” bug.
  • Guy’s escort quest “Hospitality? II” (GUID 6350042) now will spawn two attacking ships instead of having no ships ever attack.
  • The Emperor’s escort quest “Imperial Grandeur VI” (GUID 8350175) now will now will spawn two attacking ships instead of having no ships ever attack.
  • The achievement “But He, tell Him, can Lick Me On...” wording changed to indicate this only can be done on a Hard difficulty game.
  • Hildegard’s “Poor Souls” quest (GUID 6450083) has been changed to NOT require a Metropolis to get the quest. This was done because many players will already have the 1500 Beggars quest goal by the time they reach a Metropolis. Now all you need is Noblemen and at least 100 Beggars to possibly get the quest. Thanks to diabloxjj for pointing this change out

New in Anno 1404: Venice Unofficial Patch 1.07 (Jan 28, 2012)

  • Northburgh had a quest that had a blank title and quest text. I’ve translated it and now it is properly called “In Depth” and has quest text.
  • About 40 out of the 53 “Sink Corsair Ship” quests required you to sink Corsair Ships belonging to Hassan (GUID 15917). This was an issue if you already fraternized and were at permanent peace. In this case, you had to use a letter of marque, which was quite cumbersome. I’ve changed all quests to make the enemy generic “Enemy Corsair Ships” (GUID 15933) so that they can always be attacked. I also updated the 2 quest texts that referred to Hassan; all the rest already spoke of generic “Corsairs”. Note that the Venice quests of this type already exclusively used GUID 15933, as they should have.
  • The term “Ornamental Building” has been changed to “Ornamental Elements” in all 20 or so places. This was done since some of the Ornamental elements were buildings but some were objects. So “Element” is a better catch-all term.
  • The term “profile” has been capitalized when it refers to the Player Profile.
  • When gaining Honor, the term “gain” or “gained” is now used almost everywhere. Before other terms like “earn”, or “accumulate” were used. These two terms now refer almost always to Gold Coins.
  • There are 13 multiplayer quests (GUIDs 40650386 to 40650393 and 40650398 to 40650402) given by Garibaldi that didn’t have quest story texts, even in the German version. These are special quests seemingly given at random very rarely (I’ve seen one in 40 hours). I’ve added new quest story texts to both the addontexte.txt and the addon_quests.xml file.
  • Fixed the “We Have no Time to Lose!” achievement text to indicate in-game hours, not real-world hours. I previously missed a few places when I fixed this.
  • Made the text for the “Flying Envoys” and “Assembly Line” achievements to be singular “hour” instead of “hours” since it is only 1 hour for both.
  • Edited all the “Defeat XXX computer player in X hours” achievements to indicate this is “real-world” hours of gameplay, not in-game time.
  • Changed the text for the “Get out of Here!” achievement to indicate this is 1 “real-world” hour.
  • Changed the text for the “How Mean!” achievement to indicate your destroyed the Flagship within the first 5 real-world minutes of the game.
  • Changed the text for the “Time? What is Time” achievement to indicate this is 1 “real-world” hour.
  • Changed the text for the “We’ve Come a Long Way Together” achievement to indicate this is 500 “real-world” hours.
  • Changed the text for the “Shouldn’t we be going to War Soon?” achievement to indicate this is “real-world” hours.
  • Many tooltips for completed achievements removed the “Total to date:” line, but quite a few kept this. One could argue they should all be removed since this is mainly used for keeping track of your progress. However, I find it fun to see how much I’ve overshot the achievement after playing for ages. Therefore, for this reason and for consistency I’ve added back the “Total to date:” number for tooltips for completed achievements for the following: “A Blaze of Glory” (build 100 Ornamental Buildings on an Island), “Clear to Board!” (use 15 Boarding Crews), “Move On, There’s Nothing to See!” (use 15 Smoke Screens), “And if You’re Not Willing” (use 15 Diplomatic Edicts), “On Behalf of Your Majesty” (use 15 Letters of Marque), “Quick! Has Anyone got some White Underwear?” (use 15 White Flags), “Extra Spicey” (produce 10,000 tons of Spices), “The Black Fleet” (Sink 50 Ships without losing one of yours), “Towering Superiority” (build 25 Fortified Towers on an Island), “Water Soup Again?” (produce 500 tons of Provisions), and “From my Cold, Dead Hands” (produce 500 tons Weapons).
  • Added back the “Total to date:” number for tooltips for uncompleted achievements for the following: “Am I Croesus?” (accumulate 1,000,000 Gold Coins) and “Vitamin B” (accumulate 10,000 Honor).
  • Fixed variable for tracking how many Smoke Screens you have used for the “Move On, There’s Nothing to See!” achievement since it was incorrectly referring to the prior Boarding Crews tracker. This only affected the display, not the actual acquisition of the achievement.
  • Karim’s quest “Sea Raiders” has been renamed to “Sea Locusts” to better match the text.
  • About 25 quest text grammar fixes or other improvements.

New in Anno 1404: Venice Unofficial Patch 1.06 (Jan 3, 2012)

  • Fixed several issues with the Sultan’s extensive quest “The False Chroniclers”. I accidentally changed parts V and VI to occur at Northburgh’s island instead of Al Zahir’s. Likewise, part VI I used the wrong XML variables so no items were being requested for delivery. Now the proper 3 items are being requested, which were rewards from part V
  • Fixed more grammar issues in quest texts such as “Oriental Delicatessen” and “Noble Captivity”

New in Anno 1404: Venice Unofficial Patch 1.05 (Dec 27, 2011)

  • Added a line to the Coal Mine construction menu tooltip to clarify its output, “Double the output of Charcoal Burner’s Huts.”
  • Added extra lines to all construction menu tooltips for production chain buildings that use Coal. Now Coal Mines are also listed (with usage percent’s) along with Charcoal Burner’s Huts with an “or” between them to signify either works.
  • The item “Glass Phials” (GUID 8302) has been reassigned from Northburgh’s item pools (both GUID 500619 and 500845) to Al Zahir’s (both GUID 500621 and 500846), since it boosts an Oriental Good. This fixes my change from version 1.04.
  • Added the “Construction Plan for a Cannon Foundry” to Hakim’s Invention item pool (GUID 500531) for Patrician level, since the “War Machines Workshop” was there also, so they both might as well be available.
  • Giovanni’s Venice quest “The Fake Buyer” was marked as a “Continuous” quest, so even after you finished the trade race, the quest wouldn’t end. I’ve fixed this.
  • Helena’s quest “Route Security” text changed to refer to generic Ships, not Corsairs, since you sink Warships, not Corsair Ships.
  • The title “The Looting Expert” was given by two different achievements. I’ve removed the title award from the “The Box of Tricks” achievement and left it on the harder and more encompassing “Full Treasuries” achievement.
  • Fixed the News text “Plague Vanquished in PLAYERNAME” to read “Plague Vanquished in CITYNAME”. Also fixed the Plague Outbreak message that had the same issue. And improved the vanquished text to say the player name and player city instead of just the player city name.
  • The AI Giovanni’s short name was “The Trader Giovanni” but I’ve renamed him to simply “Giovanni” since this is the format the other AI players use.
  • Changed the “We Have no Time to Lose!” achievement text to indicate the 7 hours are “real-world” hours, not in-game hours. This will help some players to realize fast-forward is smart to use.

New in Anno 1404: Venice Unofficial Patch 1.04 (Dec 20, 2011)

  • All quests linked to achievements that had civilization level caps have been adjusted to remove the caps. For instance, a number of quests were only given at Patrician level, and if you ever had even one Nobleman move in, you could never, ever be given the quest by the NPC. Although I understand dividing quests by civilization class helps ensure a steady progression of new quests, the end result is the very illogical situation where an NPC would refuse to give you a quest simply because your city is large. And from a gameplay perspective, it was VERY annoying to have to purposefully hold yourself back at lowly Citizen or Patrician levels just to hope you get the right quest (which could take 10 hours or more!). The following quests have been edited to change the variable to Nobleman: (see full readme for list).
  • Willem’s quest “Miracle in the Sand” (GUID 5950137), which unlocks an achievement, was originally disabled if you picked “Reach 2000, 5,000, or 10,000” Envoys as a winning condition. The 5,000 and 10,000 levels shouldn’t disallow the quest since the quest asks for reaching merely 3,000. Therefore, to enhance the likelihood of being given this quest I’ve removed the 5,000 and 10,000 quest disablers.
  • Lucius’s quest “Befitting” (GUID 5750092), which is part of an achievement, was originally disabled if you picked “Accumulate 150,000, 500,000, or 1,000,000” Gold Coins as a winning condition. The 1,000,000 level shouldn’t disallow the quest since the quest asks for you to accumulate 500,000. Therefore, to enhance the likelihood of being given this quest I’ve removed the 1,000,000 quest disabler.
  • Constanza’s quest “Recognition” (GUID 6050082), which is part of an achievement, was originally disabled if you picked “Reach 5,000, 10,000, or 30,000” Inhabitants as a winning condition. The 30,000 level shouldn’t disallow the quest since the quest asks for you to reach 10,000. Therefore, to enhance the likelihood of being given this quest I’ve removed the 30,000 quest disabler.
  • Giovanni’s quest “Measure the Empire” (GUID 6150078), which is part of an achievement, was originally disabled if you picked “Accumulate 150,000, 500,000, or 1,000,000” Gold Coins as a winning condition. The 500,000 and 1,000,000 levels shouldn’t disallow the quest since the quest asks for you to accumulate 250,000. Therefore, to enhance the likelihood of being given this quest I’ve removed the 500,000 and 1,000,000 quest disablers.
  • The “Handyman” achievement, which requires using many of the “Construction Plan” items, was unable to be accomplished in Venice because Venice changed the way the items worked (they are consumed immediately upon use instead of socketed in to a Warehouse). Therefore, you previously had to get this achievement in the regular game. That is bad. I’ve changed it so now you don’t need to “use” the items but merely “acquire” the items. Hence, as soon as Ibn al Hakim invents one, since it is placed in your Warehouse, the achievement will recognize that Construction Plan as “acquired”. Technical “ItemUsed” XML variable changed to “ItemInStorage”.
  • I’ve edited the “Handyman” achievement to now require acquiring a few of the major Construction Plan items I added to the game. This does make this achievement slightly harder, but it still isn’t that hard. I’ve added the “Debtor’s Prison”, “Bathhouse”, “Historic Warehouses Foundation”, “War Machines Workshop”, “Cannon Foundry”, “Fortified Tower”, “Fortified Gatehouse”, “Keep”, and “Oriental Fort”. I also reordered the list so it is in a more logical order when viewing in the achievements screen.
  • The item “Imperial Geologist” has been renamed to “Imperial Mineralogist” in order to clearly differentiate it from the Venice “Geologist” items used on Volcanic Islands.
  • The items “Wooden Spoon” (GUID 8287) and “Iron Roasting Pan” (incorrectly called Iron Roast Pan originally) (GUID 8293) have been added back to the items Al Zahir randomly sells post-Sultan’s Mosque construction (item pool GUID 500621). They originally were removed once you built the Sultan’s Mosque. I consider this improper since these items are still valuable and should be able to be purchased.
  • The item “Glass Phials” (GUID 8302) has been added to Northburgh’s item pool (both GUID 500619 and 500845) that you can buy from at the Nobleman level. This item strangely was the only productivity boosting item that was only attainable as a rare quest reward.
  • Gavin’s Venice quest “The Status Symbol” was still in German. I’ve translated it and restored the quest text. But beware, the Anno developers wrote quite a risqué bit of text for this one!
  • For Ibn al Hakim’s pool of items (GUID 500531) he can invent for you, I added 13 new Construction Plan items, since strangely the original game seemed to fairly randomly pick which items had Construction Plans and which didn’t. Now all important buildings have plans. I also restored 9 Construction Plan items that were originally in the .txt files but not active in the .xml files. All 22 of these new items have been spread throughout Ibn’s invention pool. This greatly increased the diversity of the reward pool, so you shouldn’t be constantly bombarded with “Large Norias” and “Imperial Cathedral Foundations” and “Sultan’s Mosque Foundations”. I also tweaked a few priorities for existing Construction Plan items in this pool to make them more or less frequent depending on the usefulness of the item. Overall, you can expect better and more diversified inventions now. (see full readme for list of added items)
  • Ibn al Hakim’s pool of items he can invent for you (GUID 500531) was missing some important Construction Plans. Specifically, the “Church” and “Large Shipyard” Construction Plans were removed from the Patrician and Nobleman pools and the “Provisions Storehouse” Construction Plan was removed from the Nobleman pool. This made it hard to get the achievement for using every Construction Plan item (Handyman). Moreover, removing these items made it so there was less of a selection at the higher civilization levels, and hence, more repetition. I’ve added these three items back.
  • Ibn al Hakim’s pool of items he can invent for you (GUID 500531) also had a few items that were given too commonly. For one, the “Imperial Cathedral Foundation” and “Sultan’s Mosque Foundation” were too commonly given at the Nobleman level. I’ve changed their priority from “D” to “E”, which makes them both a bit less frequent. I’ve also changed the priority of the “Cemetery” and both “Juggler Camp” items from “F” to “E” at the Peasant level. I did this because otherwise these items were quite rare and the better items were more common. Now these fairly unhelpful items are a bit more commonly given at the Peasant level.
  • For Ibn al Hakim’s quest item reward pool (GUID 500868), I made some changes. For the Peasant level, I added a Bailiwick Construction Plan as a very rare reward and the Chapel as a more common reward. For the Citizen level, I added a Bailiwick Construction Plan and removed the Cemetery, Occidental Juggler Camp, and Oriental Juggler Camp because the Bailiwick is a nice reward to add in and the later three buildings are rubbish rewards. For the Patrician level, I added the Keep, Debtor’s Prison, Historic Warehouses Foundation, Oriental Fort, Fortified Tower, and Fortified Gatehouse. For the Nobleman level, I added the Keep, Debtor’s Prison, Historic Warehouses Foundation, Oriental Fort, and Bathhouse. I removed the Cemetery, Occidental Juggler Camp, and Oriental Juggler Camp. Overall, this makes the Construction Plan rewards better and more diversified. The original game tended to give too many of the same items and too many fairly bad items.
  • A number of “escort Ship” quests where you had to escort more than 1 Ship incorrectly used the singular quest info text of “escort a Ship…”. I’ve fixed this in all places by adding “XXX” to each of these quests, where XXX is either 500763 for AI and Harbor Island quests or 500769 for Neutral Power quests. Quests fixed: Garibaldi’s “Privacy” (GUID 40650133), Garibaldi’s “Bear-Faced Monster” (GUID 40650100), Garibaldi’s “Uncertain Voyage” (GUID 40650104), Garibaldi’s “Stories Untold” (GUID 40650098), Garibaldi’s “Carnival V” (GUID 40650251), Garibaldi’s “Oriental Food II” (GUID 40650280), Garibaldi’s “Securities Transport” (GUID 40650352), The Sultan’s “Thirst for Knowledge V” (GUID 40803011), Guy’s “No Honor among Thieves” (GUID 6350030), Northburgh’s “Noble Vanity” (GUID 8050615)”, The Emperor’s “Enemy in Your Own Ranks VI” (GUID 8350121), The Sultan’s “The Gift” (GUID 8450026), Hassan’s “Escort for a Trader” (GUID 8250546), Hilarius’ “Open to New Things” (GUID 5303018).
  • Cuno’s quest “Enlightenment” (GUID 5304028), which is an escort 2 Ships quest, had the wrong quest info text (it said to salvage several Flotsam). This has been fixed.
  • A few grammar fixes, such as the quest text for “Drunk after the Hunt” changed “too money” to “too many”. A few words changed when they didn’t match the in-game variables, such as “for enough Coin” changed to “for a big enough reward” since the quest reward didn’t include money. Too bad Spellcheck can’t find these issues…
  • Removed one line break from the end of “Select the Ship to be escorted to start the Escort”. This was done to match the format used elsewhere.
  • The question mark has been removed from the phrase, “NAME asks you if you want to begin the Escort?”. This isn’t a question but a statement.
  • The phrase “NAME offers you” standardized to “NAME is offering you” since this is what Anno usually uses.
  • Added a comma between “NAME will sell you the Ship, XXX, for:”. The last comma was originally missing.
  • Nearly every reference to “Route” was changed to “Trading Route” to improve clarity. This goes for “Route Inefficient”, “Route Lost”, and so on. The same with references to “route” being changed to “Trading Route”.
  • The phrase “Trading Route Point” has been standardized to “Trading Route Waypoint” since this is proper term.
  • The phrase “at this station” referring to Trading Route Waypoints has been changed to “at this Waypoint”.
  • The tooltip message, “Right-Click to throw XXX overboard” has been changed to also first state “Left-Click to transfer XXX” and then list the overboard line.
  • The term “Quit Unload” renamed to “Close Unload” to be uniform.
  • The term “Add Warehouse” renamed to “Add Waypoint” for the trading routes screen, since not all waypoints you add are warehouses, technically.
  • The term “Town” has been changed to “City” in all places where it is used as a game term, since 90% of the time Anno used City anyway. So for instance, “Heketa and her Sisters predict that the Town of” has been changed to “City of”. “Town” is still used when NPCs talk of your cities.
  • The term “Small Town” has been changed to simply “Town”. This is because there ever was a simply “Town” size, so “Small” is unnecessary.
  • The terms for the two lowest sizes of Islands, “Small Settlement” and “Settlement”, have been changed to “Settlement” and “Hamlet”, respectively. This was done because the game always speaks of your “Settlement” as the lowest common denominator, such as founding a new “Settlement”. Now “Settlement” truly means a colony, rather than a small grouping of people. Likewise, “Hamlet” is the lowest recognized grouping of peoples, and Northburgh does refer to you turning your “Hamlet” into a thriving “Metropolis”, so this change is fitting. Plus Wikipedia lists the size ranges as “Hamlet”, “Village”, “Town”, then “City”. Now the game terms match this.
  • The term “Cosmopolitan City” has been changed back to the Anno developer’s original name “Mega-Metropolis”. This is the name used throughout all the .XML and engine files. Also, if you note in the credit outtakes, Hildegard says, “…all I had to do was finish 35 hours of a Continuous Game, including the Cathedral construction and a Mega-Metropolis. Now you know why I look so old!” Plus, “Cosmopolitan” is really inaccurate since it refers to a city that is a melting pot of cultures, not merely a large city. What would have been awesome is if Anno required you to actually build a city mixed with Occident and Orient Populations in order to attain the highest city level of “Cosmopolitan City” or “Cosmopolis”. But alas…’tis not so. Hence, “Mega-Metropolis” is what I believe to be more accurate. And now you can say to your friends, “Oh yeah, I reached Mega-Metropolis in 45 minutes – I be Mega-L33t!”
  • The term “Detect Enemy Henchmen” has been changed to “Smoke Out Enemy Henchmen”. This is because this is what the game refers to elsewhere. This was very confusing since “Smoke Out” never existed as an actual action. “Detect” is more accurate, but I decided to keep “Smoke Out” since it’s a more exciting term.
  • The term “Counter-Spies” was used in several places regarding sending them out from Bases of Operations. This is an inaccurate term and should be “Watchmen” because what happens is Watchmen are sent out from Bases of Operations in order to try to “Smoke Out” enemy Henchmen. There is no such thing as Counter-Spies in the game.
  • The term “Ship Race” was changed to “Trade Race” since this is more accurate regarding what these quests are about.
  • The name “Harbor Defense Tower” is now used exclusively since a few places still referred to this building as a “Harbor Tower”.
  • A Venice loading screen tip refers to “Privateering” – I’ve renamed this to the proper but less marketable “Boarding Quests”. This was done since privateering is about being commissioned by governments with letters of marque. This is not what these quests are about.
  • The tooltip for when you select a House to infiltrate with your Henchman now includes a list of the different acts of sabotage so you can determine which act will be enabled when you infiltrate a certain civilization class’s House. Previously, you simply had to have these acts memorized, which was annoying. (Tooltip GUID edited: 50121016)
  • A few grammar fixes for tooltips, such as “Left-Click to create screenshot of…” changed to “Left-Click to create a screenshot of…”.
  • The tooltip, “Left-Click to create Trading Routes” renamed to “Left-Click to view, create, and edit Trading Routes” since this is more accurate.
  • The tooltip, “Left-Click to remove this Waypoint from the list” changed to “Left-Click to remove this Waypoint from the current Trading Route” to be more accurate.
  • The interface message “Cannot connect to server” has been renamed to the more helpful, “Cannot connect to Ubi servers.[CR] [CR]Online Profiles will not work. Only Offline Profiles can be played.”
  • Many quests ask you to complete a certain number of activities. The total completed so far is displayed using the “[QUEST_VICTORYCONDITION_PLAYERCOUNTER 0]” variable, used 10 times in the .txt files. It reads “X / X”. I’ve added descriptive text before this variable. So now instead of saying, “Complete 5 tasks. 2 / 5”, it now reads “Complete 5 tasks. Total to date: 2 /5.”.
  • The “Request at least XXX assignments” has been changed to the proper “Ask for at least XXX Quests”.
  • The loading tip that referred to “Request Quest” has been renamed to the proper “Ask for Quest”.
  • The phrase “Quests to solve” that is used in four places in the interface has been changed to the more commonly used and more logical “Quests to complete”.
  • The “Sink XXX Corsair Ships” changed to “Sink at least XXX Corsair Ships” to match the format of all other texts like this.
  • The phrase “CITYNAME regularly earn you:” has been fixed to “CITYNAME regularly earns you:”.
  • The phrase for receiving reputation from Ingratiation was missing a space after the reputation icon. Now it reads “X Reputation” instead of “XReputation” where X is the reputation icon.
  • Some improvements to Population Pyramid tooltips.
  • Added a detailed listing of all House counts by civilization type for the Total Houses tooltip in the Marketplace. This allows you to avoid going to the Population Pyramid to see a breakdown of houses.
  • Phrase “You have allocated [NUM_BEGGARS] Begging Rights in all the Cities” changed to “You have allocated [NUM_BEGGARS] Begging Rights in your Cities worldwide”. This matches the format all other civilization levels use.
  • The “Knowledge is Power” achievement tooltip had a typo regarding the “Date achieved” timestamp. It was “[PA_DATE 12299]” but should have been “[PA_DATE 122999]”. Fixed.
  • The phrase, “The Watchmen in [THIRDPARTY_CITY] have captured a Spy who was working for [THIRDPARTY_THIRD_PLAYER].” didn’t work right and that last variable was blank, even though it should have worked. I’ve changed it to “The Watchmen in [THIRDPARTY_CITY] have captured a Spy who was working for another Player.”
  • Further cleanup of Trading Route screen tooltips.
  • Changed Noria numbers for the “Greatly Increased Noria Attainments” mod so that the final capacity of Large Norias would be 10,000, 50,000, and 500,000.

New in Anno 1404: Venice Unofficial Patch 1.03 (Dec 12, 2011)

  • Over 21,000 lines of text reviewed to fix over 1,000 grammar issues, spelling mistakes, and typos.
  • Over 3,300 tooltips reviewed with hundreds of fixes and improvements to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Over 1,100 quest story texts present only in the German version have been translated and fully restored.
  • Localized over 300 words used in over 1,300 places to ensure 100% proper spellings for both the American and European English versions.
  • Added production chain ratios text to all relevant building tooltips; this is insanely helpful!
  • Added quest names to all dialogs offering quests so now you don’t have to accept to see the name.
  • Over 50 quest logic errors fixed – some cosmetic, some quest-breaking, and one game-crashing.
  • Fixed mismatched quest text and quest objectives for many extensive quests.
  • Fixed a few achievement bugs to finally allow all 316 achievements to be completed; five were impossible to complete for most players.
  • Changed achievement descriptions to actually match the requirements for a handful of achievements that had misleading descriptions.
  • Restored funny and witty achievement sentences for all achievement tooltips that were mistakenly removed.
  • Removed quest timer that adds 18 minutes to all quest queues effectively making it so you almost never get quests from some NPCs but lots from others.
  • All terminology standardized to remove ambiguity; a few terms renamed such as “Loan” is now “Grant”.
  • Renamed a few key buildings and goods to make more sense. For instance, “Animal Hides” don't come from Pigs, “Pigskins” do; the “Mill” should be called “Flour Mill”; “Eyeglasses” not “Glasses”, “Wheat Farm” not “Crop Farm”; and so on.
  • Implemented a consistent style guide regarding capitalization, names, and so on.
  • Added optional mods to make playing less tedious, such as infinite Norias and Resources, silencing annoying messages, and only having to find 1 wanted persons.
  • Countless other fixes and improvements – the major changes documented in the 16 page change list.
