In case it was not fairly obvious, clicker games are not designed to keep you in front of the computer for hours on end. Instead, they are mostly optimized to run in the background and play themselves, with the possibility to improve your score by actively clicking or purchasing upgrades. On top of that, most clicker games also feature in-app purchases that allow you to skip a lot of grinding.
Realm Grinder is a casual clicker game in which you get to make virtual money by building a town and purchasing upgrades to increase your profits. There are slightly more complex ideas later on in terms of gameplay mechanics, but the underlying idea is still very simple. Hence, all you need to do is watch the money come in and use it to purchase more buildings when you’ve got enough cash. The interface is designed to be as helpful and intuitive as possible, so you have every bit of information at your disposal. Besides actual gold coins, you can also earn special coins by clicking, including angel, demon and goblin coins. These are used to purchase special upgrades, but they get more expensive the more of them you have, so it gets tricky after a while.
To make things more interesting, the game allows you to pick a side after a few minutes of game time, namely good or bad. Both of these come with a selection of different buildings, even if their purpose is more or less the same, which is to generate currency. However, the evil side comes with special rituals and similar concepts, so at least you can re-play the experience and get a different set of toys to play with, more or less. As it’s always the case with free-to-play games, there are in-app purchases that can be used to speed things along for a while. These provide you with extra coins or various other bonuses, but they are obviously not required to see everything in the game. Naturally, it takes a lot longer to reach the end without paying a dime, but then again you can idle away and not worry about it.
In the end, Realm Grinder has quite a few new ideas in terms of gameplay, such is the case with the different factions and the multiple types of coins. However, it still gets pretty stale after a while, especially since structures get too expensive to wait around for them.
