War Chess

War Chess is a game that lets you play chess in a different way. Instead of the classic pieces and board you get 3D armies that have to battle each other to the end.

On paper, having the standard chess pieces replaced with animated soldiers, archers, wizards, skeletons, mages and more, seems like it’s going to be great. Unfortunately, the game is really old and built using really bad looking graphics.

Model details for the pieces/soldiers are poor, animations are unpolished and overall, everything just looks like it was built in a hurry. The only nice thing about War Chess is that you actually get to see the pieces attacking and killing each other on the board, but the kill effects are also badly done.

War Chess provides multiple game modes, that allow you to actually test your skills. Regardless of how it looks, it still is a chess game.

The battle is fought between the human and the undead forces and you can choose which one of these you want to play as. War Chess can be played against an AI opponent that has adjustable difficulty or you can play against a friend.

An interesting and somewhat awkward feature of the game is that you can opt to have the AI battle itself. This must have been thought out as a great way to experience the battles in 3D but you’ll just be staring at some bad designs and wasting time.

To wrap it up, War Chess is not a game you want to pay for. Even if it was offered for free it’s not something you want to play. The fact that you get two armies fighting on the board is not nearly enough to excuse the bad graphics.
