Realm of the Mad God
Battle monsters and earn reputation in this fast-paced MMO with retro graphics and roguelike mechanics. #Roguelike MMO #Co-op bullethell #Action RPG #Roguelike #Bullethell #RPG
Roguelikes are not the most accessible games for beginners, especially if you are new to video games and you want something light to waste a bit of time. In essence, most bullet hell and roguelike games are designed to be tough and frustrating, traits that are highly valued by experienced gamers looking for a challenge.
Realm of the Mad God is a funny, but tough online game designed to be enjoyed as a co-op bullet hell/roguelike combination, which is about as intriguing as it gets. In essence, your goal is to create a character and use its skills to survive for as long as possible in a world full of monsters. You can pick from a variety of classes, and each class has multiple specializations as well, which allows you to experience the game differently every time.
The gameplay revolves around quests, which are almost all the same: find a kill a specific boss creature. Naturally, these bosses can be handled on your own at first, but they get tougher and tougher as you manage to level up and reach other parts of the map. However, you can team up with other players and work together to complete quests, which is yet another great part of the game.
Some of the monsters you put down have a chance to drop items or potions, all of which come in handy at one point or another. Granted, not all items can be used by every class, since some armors or weapons are only compatible with certain characters. However, they can all be sold to other players, so it’s obviously good to pick up valuable items, even if you cannot use them yourself.
The fast-paced gameplay mechanics may appear rather chaotic at first, but the game is actually very precise and smooth. On top of that, the controls are accurate and responsive, which is mighty important in a game in which death means that you lose everything you have gained and you have to start over. As for the graphics, they are certainly simple and to the point, but that shouldn’t be an issue if you are in it for the action.
Even if Realm of the Mad God can be frustrating sometimes, especially since the permadeath feature takes away everything you have managed to gain over a few hours of gameplay, the overall experience is very pleasant and enjoyable. Thus, if you are in for a challenge and you do not mind the difficulty level, this can keep you busy for weeks.
