Platformer games have always been exciting since they use the camera display as an excuse to showcase fancy graphics without tearing down your video card. Anime MMORPGs are MMOs that use all elements that mane anime and manga beloved, from the art style to the over-the-top special effects to appeal to the many fans of the genre. Of course, there are platformer games, there are anime MMOs, and then there's Elsword.

The game is based on a popular anime, or an anime is based on the game. Nothing is for sure since they both came out simultaneously and they both gathered their own cult following, complementing each other through stories and references. The characters are diverse in both appearance, background story and fighting style, and all of them are equally capable of bringing ruin to all your enemies on the screen through fire, brimstone, ice, electricity, explosions or cuts. Like all games, no single character is better than the rest, and they usually follow a rock-paper-scissors type of balancing, as you will surely find an opponent that will mop the floor with your so-called perfect build.

When you choose your character, you do not gain that one character. Instead, you receive an avatar full of potential, a potential to evolve following a variety of paths. For example, choosing raven will give you access to attacks from his Nasod arm and his sword. You get to choose between builds that enhance his arm combos, with are slower yet more explosive, builds that focus on his sword, which are lighter, yet faster and harder to counter, or the hybrid commander build which focuses on long-range attacks and explosions.

After the first few instanced dungeons, you'll pretty much forget about how much more you need to kill before leveling up since the gameplay is so addicting and fun; you be glad to return to dungeons that don't even reward you with anything anymore. The player base is quite high, and you'll always find someone to play with, and the social aspects that Elsword offers, such as mailing, auction houses and partying all make it a wonderful experience to enjoy, even if all you plan on doing is staying in the cities to chat and show off the cosmetic outfit you have.

You may be fooled at first when you see how weak the minions are in a dungeon, but you mustn't make the mistake of thinking that the boss will go down quickly.  They know how to combo too, and their HP bar sometimes seems like it never drops, not even by an inch, so coordinated teamwork between you and your friends aid the key to downing them to get that unique loot.

Elsword has all the elements that make a game fun, including great graphics, great character design, flashy combos, and beautiful outfits, and since you can level up extremely quickly, you'll be able to re-roll other characters in no time, or the same character but on a different progression path.
