Caller's Bane

CCG games give us a sense of tactics and accomplishment whenever we play them, since any nimrod can summon a massive army of monsters, but it takes skill and precision to beat a level ten golem with a level 1 naked mole rat. That is precisely why they are so popular among gamers (and maybe it also has something to do with the fact that CCG need minimum graphics, so they are easy to develop). One such title is Caller's Bane, formerly known as "Scrolls" a CCG and TBS hybrid that comes straight from the same minds that brought you Minecraft.

Caller's Bane has recently surfaced to the gaming public, and after a first good look, there’s nothing bad that catches your eye, from a visual and functional point of view that is. Everything looks really good, the summoned creatures and warriors have animated attacks that are a pleasure to observe, and the GUI itself is well designed.

Apart from the multiple battle modes, single player skirmish, trials, quick matchups, ranked games, you get to create custom decks that fit your style or go well with a good strategy. You can also craft cards (just for aesthetic purposes), and there’s also a shop from where you can buy new scrolls or sell those which you don’t need.

It’s impossible not to notice that Caller's Bane appears to be a hybrid between Hearthstone and Heroes of Might and Magic. Before you start expressing opinions about its apparent origins, think about the fact that Caller's Bane brings together well-received features from two great games and uses them to create a considerably more challenging combat system.

There is much more to think about when fighting an adversary since Caller's Bane is pretty much a chess game with beasts, fierce warriors and magic, where thinking three steps ahead can win you the battle.

The gameplay itself isn’t complicated, but it is highly recommended that you go through the tutorial because plunging into a battle right away might leave you the impression that arenas are kind of imbalanced. However, that impression lasts until you start to get a handle on things, afterward, Caller's Bane becomes fun.

To sum things up, Caller's Bane will certainly not appeal to all CCG fans but giving it the benefit of a doubt is a smart thing to do. It has plenty of content and features to get you interested and keep you that way for a long time.
