Sometimes, a silly story is the best thing for your mood, especially if the humor is spot on and the characters deliver the jokes properly. Video games are pretty good at this, since there are many examples of enjoyable adventure games that feature incredibly little serious content. Naturally, games like the Sam & Max series come to mind almost immediately, but there are others as well.

Wuppo is a pretty strange game in the first few minutes, but it keeps getting weirder the longer you play it. However, it’s the funny kind of weird, which is great news if you like outlandish stories that barely make any sense. On top of that, you also have to solve silly puzzles and complete relatively tough platforming challenges, plus the occasional boss fight to keep the adrenaline pumping.

The story puts you in the role of a Wum, which is one of the creatures that inhabit the game world. Wums are the smartest of the creatures, but there are others out there as well, including Fnakkers, which are violent and not very bright. Your goal is to find a new home after you have been kicked out of your old one for spilling ice cream everywhere, but the journey is full of challenges.

There are a few RPG elements in there as well, such as the fact that you can pick up items and equip your characters with all sorts of weapons. Most of your time is spent dealing with enemies and trying to find your way around the tricky stages, but every now and again you also have to face a boss in order to continue your trip. In short, there’s plenty to be done, so you definitely won’t get bored along the way.

Since the game world is strange to say the least, the graphics are just as unique, at least when it comes to the colors used to render most of the environments. Some of the stages can be a tad disorienting, especially since you can go in pretty much any direction, but it shouldn’t be that difficult to orientate yourself. On top of that, the sound effects are hilarious as well.

In the end, Wuppo is a very well-written puzzle-platformer with plenty of action to keep you busy, not to mention the unique universe that just keeps on giving. Hence, the full game should be a total blast if it’s anything like this demo, so we can only hope that’s going to be the case.
