Steel Storm: Burning Retribution is a top-down shooter developed and published by Kot in Action Creative Artel.
Top down shooters always have a certain appeal to most gamers, mostly because it permits a lot of freedom of movement and it’s much easier to dodge incoming fire. Unlike side scrollers, for example, the player controls the direction and the speed of the character or ship, which makes the experience much more enjoyable.
Even if Steel Storm: Burning Retribution looks and feel like very modern game, the developers from Kot in Action Creative Artel are saying that it’s actually following an old school spirit, with a new twist. We can tell you that there aren’t many games that can compare with Steel Storm, but the downside is that the game is far from perfect.
The players control a hover tank that really powerful, and that is capable of dealing with multiple enemies at once. There is no back story for Steel Storm: Burning Retribution, so the players are playing mostly for the high score.
The tank is controlled with the WASD keys and the mouse, and the support for the gamepad has to be enabled from the settings. It might seem like the gamepad is the natural choice for this game, but the keyboard and mouse are vastly superior.
The thing is that Steel Storm: Burning Retribution is a really difficult game, even if you play it on the easiest setting. There are multiple enemies on screen at any given time, and the gamepad simply doesn’t have the required finesse. It’s very similar to the requirements of a first person shooter, so don’t change to a gamepad.
The levels are full of destructible objects, which often hold ammo for the missile launcher, repair items, and much more. Don’t focus just on destroying the enemies, make sure that you hit other stuff as well.
Steel Storm: Burning Retribution is a pretty fun experience, and the only major problem it has is the fact that enemies are spawned, which is never a nice thing to happen in a game, let along in a top-down shooter.
