SpeedRunners Demo

SpeedRunners is a multiplayer running game that features four contestants in the same level, all racing to the finish line and all wanting to win by any means necessary.

We are all familiar with endless running games that have been made popular by the mobile platforms. Some of those games have also landed on the PC platform, but most of the time they don’t have a lot of success because they are pretty simplistic and lack any kind of complexity. This is usually a no-no for PC users.

From the few endless running games that do come to the PC, only a handful have been considered interesting enough by the gaming community. Those game had something extra that mobile versions lacked, like multiplayer, better leader boards, or a number of other features.

The point is that they have to have something different so that it’s not yet a boring variant built on the same recipe. Fortunately, SpeedRunners is just such a game.

The developers from DoubleDutch Games took the simple concept of an endless running game and combined it with a competition mode between four characters. If you throw in this mix some weapons that can be picked up the way, a grappling hook, traps, local and online multiplayer, numerous maps from developers and community, and a few other features, you’re going to have a very interesting experience.

At the time of writing this short review, the game was still in development, but the developers already announced that they were preparing to launch a stable version. Not much will change, but it’s expected that some minor modifications and fixes will be made.

The engine used by SpeedRunners seems to be very smooth, but truth be told this is not a very demanding game. The design is minimalistic, but this actually helps the gameplay a lot because players don’t focus on things that are not important

The four characters that are always on screen are bizarre and very well animated, and despite their different size they seem to have the same speed and abilities. The demo only has a single level.
