Sid Meier's Civilization V - Gods and Kings was the first big expansion for Sid Meier's Civilization V. It was important enough for the Firaxis developers to launch a dedicated demo for it.

Sid Meier's Civilization V is a very complex game, but it wasn’t like that from the beginning. Firaxis prefers to launch a lighter version of their games, especially in the Civilization series and complete it with DLC’s later on. Many of these DLCs are actually quite big, so getting them greatly expands the original title. There are a few that should have been added from the start, but that’s something that players don’t really mention.

Gods and Kings may have a pompous name, but the truth is that it says exactly what it says. It introduces a new religious system, alongside the existing policies, which makes a lot of difference in the end. The Kings part is about some new factions that have been implemented, each with their ups and downs.

Unlike demos for other games, the one for Sid Meier's Civilization V - Gods and Kings extends quite a lot. Players can’t set up the game manually and can only play a single scenario, but the good news is that you can play it until the end.

Firaxis managed to perfectly implement these new add-ons, and they don’t feel out of place. Other new features include better diplomacy and espionage, a couple of new city states, a new combat system, better naval combat, and nine new Wonders with various effects on civilizations.

Also, players get three predetermined scenarios that let players take control of a nation in the Renaissance Europe, the Fall of Rome (playing with either Rome or the barbarians), and Empires of the Smoky Skies. This last one seems to be the most interesting because it introduces a unique tech tree that’s part of a Victorian science-fiction scenario.

As usual, you will need a pretty good system if you want to crank all the settings to high, but if you don’t mind the lower details, you won’t have to own a powerful system.
