Pulling levers and using various other mechanical devices to have some fun is a rather outdated gaming form, especially nowadays when virtual reality is starting to make a comeback. However, that doesn’t mean one cannot integrate old ideas into new technology and enjoy it, as it is the case with modern pinball games.

Pure Pinball is about as straightforward as it can be in the genre and it is obviously an attempt to portray pinball in a modern environment, while keeping the feeling and the general atmosphere largely the same. Hence, even if the graphics are fully three-dimensional and you get to see a lot of convincing reflections around the tables, you still feel like at the local arcade.

As such, there are multiple tables at your disposal, each one of which approaches a different theme and provides you with a unique challenge. Whether it’s cars and speed, or trains and railroads, the gameplay oscillates depending on what the underlying idea is. Naturally, you still have to move quickly and gather as many points as you can, while the fast-paced nature of the gameplay keeps you on edge at all times.

Since there aren’t too many things you can do, other than keep the ball from falling off the table, the controls are pretty simple as well. Thus, you only get to move the two paddles and hit the ball whenever it gets near them. It is also possible to tilt the entire table, although doing more than a few times can get you an early forfeit, as usual.

Visually, the game looks about as pretty as it gets for a pinball game, especially since mostly everything is static, except for the balls. There are some lighting effects that come into play whenever you manage to hit some sort of jackpot, but other than that, things are pretty standard. Some of the tables are a tad too complex and intricate, on the other hand, so you might have trouble knowing where your ball is at all times.

Even if the genre is pretty much a relic of the past, Pure Pinball can still make your day a bit brighter whenever you are in the mood for something light, yet challenging. The tables are different enough to keep you entertained for long periods of time, since each one of them features a variety of nice combos you can achieve.
