There are not many innovations at work in terms of gameplay, but the adventure is fun enough to make all that stay in the background. The story starts when the captain of a ship called Heerlijkheid disappears from a town in Iceland, and it would appear that the whole thing is shrouded in mystery. Hence, people say that he may have run away with some legendary treasure, but it’s also a possibility that he may have been kidnapped. Naturally, your job is to investigate the mystery and find out what really happened.

The adventure takes you to a variety of interesting locations, each one of which has to be explored in order to find the clues you need. Unlike regular HOPAs out there, this one actually features exploration, even if there are no 3D environments. Hence, you can move around and even rotate the camera in fixed increments in order to take a look around you and find what you need to solve the case.

The puzzles themselves are a tad more complex as well, depending on your experience with the genre. It’s not always enough to find the right objects, since very often you have to deduce things by having a look at the clues you have already gathered. Lastly, the graphics make a good impression too, even if sometimes they can be a bit too dull and colorless for some reason.

In the end, Nancy Drew: Sea of Darkness may not feature innovative gameplay elements or anything of the sort, but the mystery and the puzzles are definitely worthy of your time. Thus, it should easily keep you busy for a couple of hours.
