NEON STRUCT is a first-person stealth game that was developed and published by a studio named Minor Key Games.
Building stealth games is very difficult, no matter if they are in third person or first person. Developers need to choose from making the AI really smart so that they will pose a real challenge, or to make them dumb enough so that they only seem intelligent. Also, characters need to know how to use the shadows and the environment sounds, so it’s not as easy as you might think.
In fact, most games that claim to have a stealth element most likely fail to provide a proper experience. Just because you can hide in the shadows doesn’t mean that you’re in a stealth game. Much more complex gameplay is required, so you can understand out skepticism when we heard that NEON STRUCT is a title that’s mostly about stealth and finishing levels without being detected.
The players will play as Jillian Cleary, a former spy that’s trying to clear her name. She’s being hunted by her former employers in a “concrete-and-neon brutalist vision of the modern surveillance state,” or at least this is what the developers are saying.
The gameplay is pretty straightforward. The players get some objectives and the entire level at their disposal. There is no indication on where to go next or what to do, so that’s a really interesting point and an extra challenge.
The only aid that the player receives is a small meter at the bottom of the screen with the light exposure, and that’s pretty much. You can knock out any enemy from behind, and you can pickpocket them, but that’s pretty much the extent of what you can do. On the other hand, you don’t need to do anything else as the gameplay is tense enough.
The AI is not terribly bright, so they won’t pose a challenge, at least not in the couple of levels that are provided in the demo. The graphics are exaggerated and minimalist at the same time, but you’re not playing the game for the way it looks. In any case, trying the demo is a good idea if you’re thinking of buying this game.
