InSomnia is a role-playing game set in a dystopian universe, developed by Studio MONO and built in Unreal Engine 4.
The developers of InSomnia are making a proper real time RPG, and they are working on their project for quite some time. InSomnia has all the right ingredients for a great game and memorable game, it’s powered by the Unreal Engine, and it’s set in a world that’s been very well defined.
It often happens that good role-playing games suffer from the lack of cohesion and depth of the world that surrounds the players. This type of games are very demanding in this respect and building a believable world that can sustain the story you’re trying to tell is just as important as the gameplay itself.
The developers from Studio MONO released this demo to help people familiarize with the gameplay and with the world of InSomnia. In fact, this acts as a prequel to the actual game it ends right where InSomnia will begin. It uses the same mechanics, so players will be able to pick up the full game and continue to play that with ease, once it’s out.
InSomnia is played from a full 3D isometric perspective, and the Unreal Engine helps a lot in giving the world a realistic feel. The players will take on the role of Typer, who might become a companion in the upcoming game.
The entire game takes place on Object 6, an interplanetary space station that houses the last remaining people of a long lost civilization. They have been flying through space for a few hundred years, and they are moving toward another planet.
As you can imagine, after so long in space, Object 6 developed its own ecosystem and layers of society. The gameplay follows a classic recipe, meaning that you have an inventory, weapons, and plenty of things to loot. There are a few stealth sections, but it’s possible to just go in guns blazing if you so choose.
The developers also promise a great storyline, with multiple choices and outcomes. The only problem seems to be related to the animations, which are not as good as the rest of the game, but that might change in the final version. In any case, you can download the demo and check it out for yourself.
