The Europa Universalis franchise is quite popular with the crowds, because it provides the fans with unparalleled depth and very complex gameplay mechanics, while also managing to remain quite fun to play. Europa Universalis: For the Glory is not exactly a new release, but a massive improvement on Europa Universalis II. Due to the fact that after the official release a lot of expansion packs, patches, and community mods came out to improve the experience, the developers decided to release a complete version of the game, featuring everything you might need in order to enjoy hundreds of hours of gameplay.

As such, the game might not look very different at a first glance, especially if you have played the original release. Once you start playing, on the other hand, it becomes quite clear that the amount of content available is staggering, especially when it comes to historical events and the number of territories. As an example, there are around ten thousand historical events scripted into the game, which practically means that you can replay it as many times as you want without making the same choices.

In essence, the graphics engine the same and it certainly won’t look like the newer episodes in the franchise. The visual quality is not bad, however, especially when you consider the fact that this version comes with widescreen support and a lot of small fixes when it comes to the overall design. Not only that, but the interface has been heavily refined as well, thus making it much simpler to control everything that happens in the game.

It must be mentioned, however, that the depth might be a bit too much for those who are not familiar with the grand strategy. The amount of options and decisions can be overwhelming at first, because everything needs your personal input in order to function properly. Thankfully, there is a tutorial to get you started, as well as a helpful community to get you on your feet in no time.

All things considered, Europa Universalis: For the Glory is about as complete as it can get, although it certainly isn’t as complicated as the later episodes in the franchise. Despite that, you can still get a few hundred hours out of it, especially if you enjoy playing with different nations.
