However, every decision has its consequences and you immediately find out if your latest choice has caused any kind of reaction from the affected parties. Thus, in case you wage war on too many countries, taxes are automatically raised and your population becomes agitated, leaving you unable to do anything else until you stabilize your country.

This is but an example of how complex the economy of the game is, since there are many other ways you can influence it through the actions you undertake. Trade can be used to increase the well-being of your nation, as well as create strong alliances with other countries and use the relationships to your advantage, by calling upon them whenever you need to defend against invaders.
