Buccaneer: The Pursuit of Infamy Demo

Back in the day, the sea was a tough place that could punish you at any time, whether through bad weather and huge waves, or maybe the pirates that roamed along the trade routes in order to catch the merchant ships off-guard. However, these pirates were also thought to be quite rich, given the fact that they only helped themselves to the gold and riches from the ships they plundered.

Buccaneer: The Pursuit of Infamy is an arcade simulator that allows you to do the same thing and make a living out of stealing from others out on the sea, while also destroying their ships and leaving them stranded in the middle of the ocean. Thus, by equipping your boat with cannons and various types of ammunition, you can get away with practically anything and become quite wealthy in the end.

The entire action takes place somewhere in the Caribbean, where the waters are treacherous and the multitude of populated islands make it mandatory for ships to be constantly traveling between them, in order to transport supplies and various other goods. Obviously, this also happens to be the perfect hunting grounds for pirates, since there are plenty of targets to choose from and more than enough opportunities to fill your chests with gold.

As you become wealthier and more powerful, it is only natural that you would want to switch to a more suiting sailing ship, given the fact that you need more firepower and much more storage space to carry the loot. There are over twenty five ships to choose from, each one of which comes with various advantages, although you can easily just get the most expensive one and be set for the rest of the campaign.

Graphically, the designers did a good job at portraying the ocean and the ships themselves, not to mention the special effects when it comes to explosions and reflections. However, the combat system is a bit sketchy and tricky to get accustomed to, even if the arcade mechanics should make it pretty simple and straightforward to operate. Other than that, there are barely any major flaws to complain about.

Overall, Buccaneer: The Pursuit of Infamy may not win any awards or change your outlook on life, but it can certainly make you more jolly for a few hours. Being a pirate is definitely fun, especially if you intend on changing your accent while you’re at it and even add an eye patch to complete the illusion.
