Ash Asylum Demo

Whenever you watch horror movies, two things can happen: you either develop an immunity to that particular type of horror, or you develop a long-lasting fear towards that particular type of horror. One thing is for certain: no matter how many horror movies you see, jump-scares will always get to you, and that's what a lot of horror games rely on.  Ash Asylum is your typical horror game where you never actually see your threat, since he is nothing more than the madness caused by lurking too much in the dark while believing to see things with the corners of your eyes.

The game uses the Unreal Engine to great degree, as pretty much everything looks real enough to be scary on its own. The soundtrack is a mix of typical horror noises you'd hear in games and movies all while coupled with voice-acting that seems convincing precisely because it isn't professional.

Ash Asylum follows the typical "escape room" storyline, where you find yourself in a locked room with no memory of how you got there, and your purpose is to find the key to unlock the door that leads to freedom (or the next room). The catch is that you aren't alone, since you can always hear whispers behind you and you always get the feeling that you saw something with the corner of your eye.

You have an HP bar which seems to be more like your sanity meter, and when that hits zero, it is Game Over. Sanity depletes everytime a paranormal encounter takes place, so try to limit these from happening by sticking close to the various sources of light at all times. In real life, these encounters come in the form of jump scares that truly get to you because they never come when you'd expect them.

Ash Asylum may be short, but if you're not the bravest of types, you may actually end up being thankful because of that. The game delivers what it promises, and the most hardcore of you should try playing it in the dark with headphones, if your dare.
