Etterna Online

Etterna Online is an open-sourced game that uses the base code of StepMania in order to offer the community a chance at improving the game quality and adding features that the public asked for.

As with the base game, the player presses different buttons in time to the music and to note patterns that scroll across the screen. The game features a combination between 2D and 3D graphics, visualizations, support for game pads/dance pads, a step recording mode, and more.

As for the supported game modes, the game supports multiple modes of both single player and multiplayer matches, for both online play and playing with multiple controls from the same device.

The UI of Etterna Online has a darker theme is closer to that of a 8-bit game. More so, the two games feature pretty much the same music libraries, although Etterna Online seems to have a wider selection of anime music. As for the controls, Etterna Online seems a bit unstable though, as it becomes a bit unresponsive at first whenever you perform large downloads, such as updating your song library. However, since you only have to do this the first time you install the game, it can be seen as a minor oversight.
