Bendy and the Ink Machine
Beware of the ink machine and survive the challenges that lie ahead, in this cartoonish horror survival game. #Survival horror #Action horror #Puzzle game #Horror #Puzzle #Action
Seemingly harmless characters make great horror villains, as there are few things scarier than realizing even an adorable cartoon critter can and will come to get you, turning them into the stuff of nightmares.
The first chapter of Bendy and the Ink Machine takes place in the early days of animation, when ink was used to bring characters to life. And come to life they will, but not in the form you were probably expecting.
From the backstory to the setting, everything pretty much screams vintage cartoon. The main character is invited by a friend to visit an old cartoon workshop, where, of course, our protagonist finds himself all alone. It does not take long to realize that some very strange things are going on.
The sepia art style gives the game a unique look, and it contrasts well with the cheerful posters on the walls, making it seem like whatever is happening here is, plain and simply, wrong.
Quite a lot, it seems. It makes you wonder why our hero thought it was a good idea to activate the machine in the first place, especially with all the ominous messages that have been written on the walls.
The gameplay is relatively simple, as you only need to gather a few objects and activate a few switches in order to complete your mission. There aren’t a lot of jump scares to be wary of, but they are very well timed.
The puzzle you need to complete is very straightforward. A few additional gameplay mechanics are introduced towards the end of the chapter, though, so we will probably see more of them in future installments.
Based on this first chapter, Bendy and the Ink Machine certainly has our attention. Though it is very short, as it can be completed in around twenty minutes, there are a lot of things to appreciate, and the series shows a lot of promise.
