Ever since personal electric razors have been invented, people do not really need to visit a barbershop in order to get a shave anymore. Back in the day, good barbers were important members of the community, not to mention the fact that they had to wield extremely sharp blades with incredible precision. Thankfully, you can experience almost the same thing in the game at hand.
Barbershop Simulator is a fun game in which you play the role of a barber who needs to take care of a variety of customers, all of whom need a specific cut. You get to wield both an electric and a straight razor, both of which have their advantages. In essence, it’s all about precision and determination, because you receive points after each shave depending on how happy the customer is.
One of the first tools you get to wield is the electric razor, which is pretty simple and straightforward. However, you need to be ready to deal with some serious control issues, because it might take a while to understand how to play it. In essence, you have to move the mouse and hold down the right-click button in order to shave, but you have to do it slowly, otherwise the razor’s position resets.
Each customer wants a specific cut, ranging from rough cuts to clean shaves that demand maximum smoothness. They are usually not difficult to achieve, although some shapes might require a bit of attention and precision. Hence, the statistics screen tells you how well you did, and your performance also has an impact on the amount of money the customer pays you for your services.
As far as the graphics are concerned, the game uses Unreal Engine 4 to render everything, so there is certainly potential. On the other hand, you need to deal with massive system requirements, even if all you see is a man’s face, a razor and a few other decorative objects. Still, at least the hair looks realistic, although the customers lack eyebrows for some reason.
Even if Barbershop Simulator is fun as hell, it’s still very incomplete and badly optimized, not to mention the horrendous controls. However, it can turn into a very popular game with enough effort and dedication, and it certainly needs more content.
