Being an artist looks easy to an outside observer, which is why everyone wants to be a rock star or a famous movie actor. However, a lot of effort and dedication is necessary to create art on a regular basis, otherwise you are just a one hit wonder with no real talent. Hence, artists may not break rocks in the desert, but their job can be extremely stressful as well.
90 Second Portraits is a casual game that allows you to have a bit of fun with paint and brushes, while also providing you with a decent challenge. The goal is to paint your customers as well as you can, but you only have a minute and a half to do so. Since it takes a while to put everything on canvas, you usually have to resort to slightly more abstract representations instead.
Each customer also desires a certain background to pose in front of, which adds even more to your workload. You won’t ever get a chance to actually finish a painting, but the end result must at least come close to the real thing. After the ninety seconds are up, the next customer comes in line, which means that you are not allowed to take your time and add the fine touches.
Obviously, all of this is done for money, which means that the customers pay you for the paintings. The amount of money you receive is directly proportional to the quality of the artwork, so it won’t ever be too much. You are also awarded grades for your effort, and it is surprisingly easy to get an A if you at least put in a bit of effort. However, you first need to get used with the instruments and the color mixing.
Speaking of which, brushes are more precise and better suited for when you want to draw specific shapes. On the other hand, the bucket comes in handy when a large portion of the canvas needs to be painted at once. It’s not at all precise or pretty, but it usually gets the job done. Since the graphics are very low resolution, small details don’t matter that much anyway.
All things considered, 90 Second Portraits was not designed to become your primary method of entertainment. However, you can get the occasional laugh out of it every once in awhile, especially if you do it with a friend and share the results afterward.
