Ironcast is an upcoming turn-based steampunk mech puzzle game set in an alternate Victorian universe, where you have to defend England from invasion by matching colored gems.

Not everyone likes puzzles and match-three games, but it's commendable when people try to make them more than they are and to provide fans of casual gaming with a deeper or more stylish gameplay experience.

Puzzle Quest was one such attempt, marrying role-playing game mechanics with turn-based match-three gameplay, and Capybara Games' Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes is another fine example of mixing casual puzzle elements with a more traditional setting.

The bizarre combination is deceptively complex, as you can choose from different ironcasts and equip them with various weapons, and you can also level up and gain new abilities to help you in combat.

The gameplay consists of charging up your machinery's weapons by chaining together the longest string of matching gems, and then blasting your opponent into pieces.

The game was funded through Kickstarter last fall, and developer Dreadbit now intends to finish all its goals with the help of publisher Ripstone.

Ironcast will be making its way to Steam later this month, for Windows PC, Mac OS X and Linux.
