Adventure games rely on story and characters to keep the players hooked, because the gameplay is usually quite slow and unremarkable. Most of the time, you have to look for objects, combine them, or just talk with other characters in order to find out more about the quest ahead of you. Hence, if the story fails to keep the players interested, then there’s not much of an experience left to enjoy.
Tick Tock Isle is an adventure game that plays a lot like a platformer, except for the fact that you can also use your mouse to click on objects and combine them to obtain what you need in order to complete the mission. Other than that, the classic 2D perspective feels and plays a lot like something you might have seen on old consoles back in the day.
Story-wise, you lay the role of Strike, a young guy who’s job is to fix old clocks. One day, he gets called for a job somewhere on an island, which is where the first mission takes place. However, as Strike manages to put back some of the components and fix the clock, something happens and he is sent back through time into the past, from where he must return to the present by any means necessary.
Just like in most adventure games, solving puzzles usually means that you have to investigate the environment and find the objects that can come in handy. These are then put in Strike’s inventory, from where they can be retrieved when you think that they can come in handy. It is also possible to combine them and obtain other items, which can then be used to unlock the way further.
As far as the visual aspect is concerned, the graphics are in two dimensions and they are designed to look retro, which may or may not have been a good idea. In essence, everything looks nice and detailed, but it can be difficult to see the object you are supposed to interact with sometimes, mainly because everything is so small and pixelated.
Even if Tick Tock Isle comes with its fair share of flaws, the game can still provide you with a good time, although the demo at hand is too short to provide you with an accurate opinion on the matter. Hence, it is still pretty difficult to say whether this has any potential or not.
