The Last Remnant Demo

The Last Remnant is a role-playing game where players will have to travel to a fantasy world where the struggle for powerful artifacts creates powerful wars between nations and races.

The world of The Last Remnant is a fantasy world, a world shattered by conflict, a conflict fueled by mystical and very powerful artifacts known as Remnants. Players will take on the role of Rush Sykes, young boy who lives with his sister, Irina, on an island, away from the commotion of the wars.

Troubles reaches them one day when Irina is kidnapped by a group of soldiers right in front of her brother's eyes. Rush immediately sets in their pursuit and uncovers the world is much more entangled than he thought. Along with David Nassau and his trusty general, Rush ends up caught in a secret war where the main dispute are the remaining Remnants.

The game is set in a huge world filled with cities the player will have to explore. There are three different screens one must learn: the world map where you can travel from one city to the other in an instant, the world area where players control Rush from a third-person perspective and the battle area where all fighting is done.

The cities are split up between the four races one can encounter in the game: the Mitras are the closest thing to a human, the Yamas are humanoid creatures with a fish aspect, the Qsitis are smaller reptilian creatures and the Sovanis are powerful feline humanoids that have four arms.

The battle system is completely new and revolutionary, the developers promise, and will allow the players to make his decisions before the fighting even begins. Initiating the combat is done by simply walking into an opponent. Engaging several opponents at once is an option if you use the time-shift feature.

During a fight, you must group your units in unions, up to five different unions can be present at one time during the combat and up to 18 different allied units. Each units has various attacks it can unleash and a special attack that requires action points to be activated. Players will have to control over the special attacks of allied units during combat.

An intriguing feature of the game is that being created by Square Enix, it has lots of Japanese influences (characters, some visuals, the world map), and also follow traditional Western elements like the world area that reminds of traditional role-playing games and the standard inventory system.

The game features lots of gameplay hours and if you follow the main storyline exclusively, you will only complete about 25 percent of the game, the rest of the game being secondary quests. This huge amount of content will draw lots of RPG enthusiasts that will also appreciate the large-scale battle system.
