Team-based shooters require a lot of content to keep the players entertained for longer time periods, since replaying the same maps over and over and again can get boring relatively quickly. The gameplay must differ from match to match, according to the circumstances and the players involved in them.

Battlefield 2 is a multiplayer-oriented FPS that enables you to compete with others across a variety of maps and locations, in order to capture points of interest and use a hefty collection of weapons to inflict damage to the opposing team. The difference is that, unlike most of the other similar shooters, Battlefield brings a lot more to the table, in the form of vehicles, secondary objectives and a team ranking system. Hence, the matches can evolve in a multitude of ways, thanks to the wide range of possible outcomes that can be achieved.

The core multiplayer mode you can play is a capture-the-flag variant, although you have to capture more than one flag and you have to keep them protected until they are all under your team's control. The more players surrounding the flag, the faster it can be captured, which means that team play is a must of you want to walk away with a victory.

Another very well-thought feature is the addition of vehicles, although they were present for some time now in the Battlefield series. In this installment, however, they are provided in even greater numbers, ranging from simple jeeps, to heavy tanks that can be used to single-handedly break the enemy lines and make a path for your infantry to follow behind.

The number of players that can confront on the map at the same time has been increased as well, as you can now have over 100 of them shooting at each other at once. To organize so many soldiers, the game enables you to use some advanced team play features, which allow you to jump into battle as a simple squad member, or a commander that gives order and organizes the attack plan.

Battlefield's supremacy as a multiplayer FPS cannot be contested, especially when it comes down to the number of vehicles, weapons, maps and game modes included. The breathtaking graphics and improved physics engine make the experience that much more exciting, as do the refined gamplay mechanics.
