Spider-Man 2 Demo

Spider-Man 2 is the video game adaptation of the movie with the same name. It immerses you into the world of ‘Spidey’ and places you right in the middle of some of his great battles. Moreover, for that extra piece of enjoyment, Tobey Maguire does the voice-over for Spider Man.

In the first minutes of the game, Bruce Campbell provides the narrator voice for a short tutorial that teaches you how to move around the city and fight. After that, you quickly find yourself in the middle of a prison riot where you have to disperse some much needed order using some fairly good punch and kick combos. After a short brawl with Rhino, the game picks up the pace.

The game is meant to offer the player the Spider Man experience but it unfortunately plays like it has two left feet. It’s not that the controls are bad or that the learning curve is disadvantageous for the player, but the animations feel unpolished, combat is sometimes really weird and the AI is just bad.

For the young superhero fans, Spider-Man 2 won’t seem like a letdown but the PC version actually features simplified gameplay. That translates into an easier game to beat but it also delivered less quality in almost every aspect.

However, what was, was because Spider-Man 2 was released a good couple of years back and now, by today’s standards, it’s modest to bad on almost every level. It’s still playable none the less, that is, if you have a low enough hardware configuration for it to run on. If that’s the case, feel free to enjoy some retro glitchy gameplay that will probably offer more frustration than fun.

To sum up what little has been said, Spider-Man 2 is an ok game if you don’t expect much from it. Sure, Peter Parker has the same voice as in the movie, the rest of the cast is there and it does have its good moments, but in ensemble it’s a poor adaptation, even by 2004 standards.
