Tommy is a Cherokee garage mechanic whose life amounts to nothing special, or so he thinks to. Other than wrenching away at old cars and trying to convince his girlfriend to leave the tribe, he doesn't have too many things going for him, not by far. But, as his grandfather warns him, his life is about to take quite the unexpected turn, which gives him plenty of opportunities to redeem himself and find a purpose.

Prey is a first person shooter that aims to provide you with the ultimate story telling experience, by putting you at the center of an intense plot featuring alien abductions, Cherokee prophecies and, ultimately, the power of love. Thus, over the course of a few hours of shooting sequences, plot twists and dialog, you get to stop a galactic disaster and get the girl in the process.

The game includes a wide array of useful gameplay mechanics that help you immerse into the atmosphere, as well as interesting characters to keep you invested into the story development. The arsenal put at your disposal is highly varied, especially when it comes to the alien weapons you pick up from fallen enemies. All of these elements make for a very visceral experience, although the difficulty bar is a bit too low to make you break a sweat over the course of the missions.

Another interesting gimmick available in Prey is the spirit walking mode, which allows you to go into a different dimension with a click of a button. This can come in handy whenever the enemies prove to be difficult to kill in the usual way, or in the case of various puzzles scattered throughout the game. You can also perform wall walking and death walking, all of which have their advantages, depending on what you are trying to achieve.

Graphic-wise, the game impresses through the high level of detail when it comes to the alien environment, as well as the character models and their animation. To achieve this, Prey uses a heavily enhanced version of the Doom 3 engine, which is only fitting, considering the nature of both games. Moreover, professional voice acting has been recorded for each individual that is part of the story, while the sound effects are carefully picked to provide you with maximum immersion in whatever mission you happen to undertake.

In the end, it is worth noting the fact that Prey features the same mechanics in multiplayer as well, inluding the spirit walking abilities, which transform every match in quite the amazing experience. In case you are not into that, however, the singleplayer mode offers you everything you might need in order to keep yourself entertained for a few good hours.
