When a war devastates almost every human colony in the galaxy, it becomes your duty to take the legacy further and carry the species into the future. However, since the ships that can travel quickly enough to navigate between stars require a specific type of fuel, from a certain planet, you must first make a stop there and get all the fuel you need in order to disappear from the galaxy.
Final Destination: The Secret of Larson's Folly is a point-and-click adventure game that takes place in space, in a distant future that has the humans traveling through space at speeds that exceed the speed of light. Naturally, this is all possible thanks to a new technology that uses zero-point energy in order to get from one place to the other, which was created on a planet by the name of Larson's Folly.
As previously mentioned, your purpose is to go to this planet and retrieve more of this zero-point energy, in order to fuel your ships and scatter. However, once you reach the coordinates of the planet, you find nothing more than a floating pile of pebbles, which are the remains of the entire planet. A small research center has also survived on a nearby asteroid, which is where your adventure starts and the questions begin to mount.
Just like in any other puzzle game, you main purpose is to find out clues in the environment, by observing it and clicking on what seems important. Moreover, objects must also be combined in order to create others, or used to obtain the key to other levels. Naturally, the puzzles require a bit of knowledge to pull off, but nothing's too complicated, especially since there are multiple difficulty levels to choose from and you get a lot of hints along the way.
Visually, it must be noted that the game features some really detailed graphics, even if not all of it is rendered inside the game. However, the environments look very convincing and you can lose yourself for hours inside the various spaceships you get to visit, especially since the puzzles might put your brain to work most of the time.
The story is what really drives Final Destination: The Secret of Larson's Folly, since there are no innovative gameplay mechanics to talk about, nor interesting new gimmicks to use when solving puzzles. Despite that, the mystery keeps you playing, even when things might get a bit frustrating.
