The FIFA series can take pride in its longevity and progress over the decades, since it has been around for quite some time at this point. Thus, each year without exception, a new episode is released on the market, with heavy improvements regarding the gameplay mechanics, graphic quality and realism.
FIFA 2000 hits the market with a couple of new interesting additions, especially when it comes to the type of game modes you can partake in, such as exhibition, tournament, training and season. Since the first two are rather self explanatory, it is worth giving some special mention to the training mode. By selecting it, players are able to fine-tune their skills and practice the desired tactics and strategies, as well as get familiar with the control scheme and the way players react in certain situations.
The season mode is also exciting, since it allows you to select a team and use it to play throughout an entire season for a spot at the top of the league table. Thus, you can compete in the most prestigious championships in the world and raise to glory with the club of your choosing, as well as continue playing to maintain the prestige for multiple seasons in a row.
Whether it's how players move across the pitch, or the improved ball physics, this new installment brings forth a wide array of improvements regarding the level of realism depicted in the matches. The AI has been significantly improved to provide you with more of a challenge than before, although it still lacks the capability to actually make life difficult for you.
Graphic-wise, there are many new additional effects and better face models for the available players, which make the experience feel more real than before. From a sound quality point of view, the commentators now pay more attention to what the teams are doing on the pitch and they get excited whenever one of them manages to score a goal, or at least come very close to do so.
This installment achieves its purpose as well, with plenty of improvements to make it worth the transition from the previous episode. Thus, FIFA 2000 remains the top soccer simulator available, at least until the competition shows itself.
