Sometimes, a bit of weirdness can take your mind off everything else and just help you focus on having a good time. Video games are an excellent source of weird stuff, especially since you can actively interact with them and thus easily let go of any other annoying feelings. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that everything out of the ordinary has the same effect.
Candy's Spatial Adventures is part of a third-person adventure series featuring a dog by the name of Candy in the main role. On the other hand, it is not an ordinary dog and the world it inhabits is definitely not a normal one, because aliens and inter-dimensional travel appear to be day-to-day activities. Hence, you should be prepared to accept a few ludicrous premises from the beginning.
As far as the story is concerned, it all starts with an alien invasion that needs to be stopped, and Candy happens to be the only living thing that can do so. In order to defend your kingdom and your fellow dogs, you must collect a variety of items and use them to gain the strength required to defeat the alien invaders. The actual plot is rarely obvious throughout the game, but you can get the overall idea with the little information you have at your disposal.
Probably the most annoying thing about the game is the fact that you are never really sure what you’re supposed to be doing, given the fact that there’s no tutorial, missions, or a general idea of where to go next. Hence, you are bound to wander around for a while until you figure out what to do, although there’s a good chance you’ll give up before that ever happens.
From a technical point of view, Candy's Spatial Adventures is certainly no wonder, especially when it comes to level design and the like. In fact, very little imagination was used to design the environments you get to explore, because they are all almost devoid of any kind of objects. A bit of grass, the occasional rock and water are everything you get to see in most cases, which is quite the shame.
All things considered, Candy's Spatial Adventures is not capable of entertaining an adult for more than two or three minutes, due to a total lack of direction and content. However, the younger audience might be tricked by the bright colors and the fact that you play as a dog, so it’s worth a try in their case.
