Call of Duty 5: World at War Multiplayer Beta

One of the most acclaimed franchises in the gaming history returns with an exceptional game: Call of Duty 5: World at War. Using the same engine, with a few modifications, as Modern Warfare, this game manages to capture the thrills and atrocities of the Second World War, while keeping the player engaged.

The game opens with you as Private C. Miller of the 1st Division United States Marine Corps, as you are made to watch a Japanese soldier beat the life out of a fellow Marine. The actions takes place in the summer of 1942, August 17 to be exact. Rescued by a group of Marines, Miller will perform mission after mission while getting closer to the enemy with each win.

On the other side of the world, we meet Private Dimitri Petrenko. The battle of Stalingrad was one of the most bloodiest battles that the Eastern Front has experienced. Starting on 1942, September 17 and continuing several years later, players can follow the heroic deeds of Dimitri as he's fighting to stop the Nazi oppression in the Soviet Union.

The missions alternate so you will be transported to the Pacific war theatre and back to the Eastern Front, years apart.

The player will control the character from a first-person perspective. There are lots of available weapons, all specific to World War II and only two can be carried at the same time, so choose carefully. Sometimes is better to go for the enemy weapons, as you can easily find more ammo for them.

One of the things that can kill you in an instant are the grenades. Even if there is an indicator that tells your proximity to the explosive device, most of the time you'll be too busy shooting enemies to see it.

Damage can be taken up to a certain point. If you die, the game can be loaded from the latest checkpoint. There are no health power-up and no medic kits, the only way to regain health is to find a safe place (away from enemy fire) and wait.

Besides the normal online mode, this version of Call of Duty brings something new to the franchise: co-op gameplay. There are two available modes: local co-op with a two-player splitscreen and online co-op where up to four players can enjoy the fight.

What's different than the other Call of Duty games is that World at War uses a more humane approach. The characters feels almost real and when you'll see another of their comrades being injured or killed, it will brings out compassion.

Due to a great soundtrack and amazing visuals, each mission is carefully designed to make the player experience the devastating effects of the war. This is one Call of Duty game you should not miss out.
