While the prehistoric age may not be that known for its wars, the potential was there, if only there were enough people to make the battles more interesting. Modern technology, however, makes it possible nonetheless, in the form of a wacky video game in which you get to battle dinosaurs and other tribes of cavemen for territory.

BC Kings is a real-time strategy game that blends a few RPG elements into the mix as well, in order to provide you with a unique adventure into the life of prehistoric man. However, the action is spiced up a little, since there are also dinosaurs, magic spells and various other curious enemies that were definitely not taken from the history books, not to mention the powerful heroes that can decide the battles by themselves.

To start off with, there are two races to choose from and quite the lengthy campaigns to go through, in case you want to hear the interesting story behind the primitive humans. You also happen to stumble on legendary artifacts and unlock the secrets of powerful places around the world, such as Stonehenge in England and the mysterious yeti creatures in the northern lands.

When it comes to the actual gameplay, everything sort of feels like a classic RTS, since you have to build a base, gather resources from the environment and build an army in order to destroy the enemy forces. However, heroes come into play after a while and they can gain experience in battles, as well as take part in side-quests in order to gather Shell-coins. Naturally, whenever they gain enough experience, they can learn new skills and become even more powerful.

Moreover, there are various magical spells that can be used in combat as well, making the battles more dynamic and far more rewarding. Thanks to the decent-looking graphics engine and the nice special effects, the game does not strike as being unpolished, especially when it comes to the artwork and the level design, in which a lot of the work clearly went.

While BC Kings may not revolutionize the RTS genre or be a memorable strategy title on its own, the game's original idea is what makes it rather special and enjoyable. Thus, the thought of riding dinosaurs, wielding axes and casting powerful spells throughout the stone age should make everyone tingle with anticipations, even if the game gets a bit repetitive after a while.
