It’s a wonder to see how fantasy worlds are able to appear so peaceful when they seem to hold infinite numbers of goblins, trolls and demons, as is the case with most movies or video games that touch on the subject. Granted, it wouldn’t be much fun if the whole action contained only a handful of monsters, so it’s usually a pleasure to see hordes of bad guys appear out of nowhere.
Tap Adventure: Time Travel is a fairly simple clicker game in which the main goal is to keep killing monsters and gather the gold that they drop. This gold can be used to learn new abilities, hire new champions and upgrade them with more powerful skills. Clicking is obviously an important part of the game, at least up to a point, and you can also invest the gold in spells to make your clicks a lot more potent.
The story is not something you need to focus on, given the fact that it’s kept to a minimum. It all takes place in a generic fantasy universe invaded by all sorts of nasty monsters, and your goal is to kill them all. There are no great character arcs or anything of the sort, so you can focus on clicking and gathering gold to unlock better upgrades.
One of the most unexpected things when it comes to the gameplay is the fact that some of the battles are actually fairly tough and challenging, especially if you forget to upgrade your champions. Speaking of which, it’s possible to increase their attack rate, health points, damage and a few other things that make them more versatile. These champions also come in multiple varieties, including ranged hunters, warriors or mages.
As for the technical aspect, the game is as basic as it gets in this regard, given the fact that the only things you can see are a handful of backgrounds and the monsters you fight. Thankfully, the monsters come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and there are also special boss creatures that are much bigger and more detailed than normal ones. The music can obviously get repetitive after a while, but it can be easily turned off.
All things considered, Tap Adventure: Time Travel is not particularly original, but it’s certainly a lot of fun. The tough battles are much more fun to deal with than the usual clickfest most of the games in the genre provide you with.
