It’s easy to make mistakes when it comes to game development, especially if you have to deal with balancing issues or strategy mechanics. However, the biggest issues appear when the game in question features a multiplayer component, because no one likes to lose to an opponent because the mechanics are broken or because they did not have as much money to purchase better units.
Mighty Party is a free-to-play strategy game with CCG mechanics and turn-based battles that allow you to place your units on a grid and use them to deal as much damage as possible. There are some good ideas at work here, but there are also many problems you have to accept along the way. The pay-to-win syndrome is present as well, which makes the whole thing even tougher to stomach sometimes.
To begin with, the goal is to use your cards in order to come out victorious from every mission, which is no easy task. The cards are automatically and randomly drawn from your deck, so this kind of limits your strategy options. On the other hand, the opponent is in the same situation, even if it’s never fun to lose because of bad luck.
Since the game is designed with microtransactions in mind, you have a limited number of actions at your disposal every day, that is unless you decide to replenish your energy and continue playing. It also takes a fairly long time to get better units unless you pay for them, so the whole thing feels a bit restrictive and not at all free-to-play most of the time.
As far as the actual battles, the only thing you can do is place the units on a grid and watch them go head-to-head with the enemy warriors. Some tiles have special effects like extra attack or hit points, which adds a bit of variety to the whole thing. On the other hand, it still depends on the power and prestige of your units, which by the way can be upgraded even further if you have enough patience or money in your wallet.
In the end, Mighty Party could have been a much more enjoyable game if it allowed non-paying players to enjoy themselves a bit more, but it’s way too restrictive and expensive. Thus, there are far better alternatives to choose from at the moment.
