EveAlarm

Eve Online is one of the biggest MMOs out there, and it has been so for a good number of years. With four factions to choose from, and thousands of active players online at any given time of the day, at least one of them is bound to attack you sooner or later.

That’s something you should expect, but it’s really unpleasant when you get caught totally off guard. EveAlarm is a small tool that’s designed to help you survive surprise attacks by notifying you when an enemy craft enters your proximity.

EveAlarm displays a user-friendly interface and is easy to use. However, if you’ve never used tools like this, or you just started off with Eve Online, it will take you a bit of time to understand how it works. Despite having a basic interface, the app has no tutorial or built-in help to make things easier for you.

To add an account you have to manually locate the XML file for your profile, which, for the novice, is not always pleasant. Then again, some people install their games in other places than the default one, so the latter method is at times mandatory and the best option.

From the main window of the app, you can also set the position. The position for what is unknown. Again, if a new player wants to use this, what the position feature does is unknown. Using it, you can move and scale a rectangle within the game. The space inside the rectangle is shown in EveAlarm’s interface, so it’s meant for you to see something, but what?

There’s no doubting the usefulness of a tool that warns you when you’re about to get attacked or when there’s an enemy craft in your proximity. More so since it’s designed to work even when the game is minimized into the taskbar or in window mode and somewhere in the background. Support for up to four accounts is also great. What’s not so good is the total lack of guidance.

In any MMO, it’s great to have a tool that helps you stay alive. It’s exactly what EveAlarm is built to do. However, if you intend to use it, be patient with it until you figure out how it works.
