The Wizard's Pen

The Wizard's Pen is one of the first game made by PopCap studio, marking the beginning for this amazing team of developers.

The Wizard's Pen wasn’t all that popular back in the day, although it’s one of the first proper hidden object game that really draw some attention. This genre has been beaten to death in the past few years, and there must be thousands of games that do basically the same thing. On the other hand, PopCap never did anything ordinary, and all of their games had some interesting.

Hidden object games used to be really interesting when they weren’t so ubiquitous. Now, a new game that requires users to find stuff lost in the background is launched almost every day. This, in turn, worn out the genre which is filled with second rate title. Studios are just trying squeeze some dollars from the few remaining hidden object fans.

Even if The Wizard's Pen has a quite a few years under its belt, it’s still fun to play. It doesn’t hold enough replay value since the solutions are obvious once you solved them at least once, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting to play.

The Wizard's Pen is actually made up of a few different gameplay modes. Most of the time you’re playing some sort of a hangman. A partially obscured image is showed, and you must guess what that image is before the candle runs up. Each failed try make the candle shorter, and you reward smaller.

When you’re not playing this version of hangman, you play a reverse hidden object game. You’re given an image and a list of object that are missing from that image. Your job is to paint back the items in the frame. Clicking at random will spill the ink and obscure part of the picture, and it will lower your score. Clicking the hint button will have the same effect.

The object is to get as many stars as possible in order to advance to the next level. Seems simple enough, but it’s not.

The trial only covers 60 minutes of gameplay.
