Soldat

Soldat is an action packed side-view shooter that takes several elements from games such as Worms and Conter-Strike and blends them together in a 2D world. The game offers multiple modes in which you basically have to shoot it out with bots or a number of your friends.

In Soldat you get to control a little soldier, equip him with firearms and grenades, after which you get to send him off into battle. You move using the same keys that are present throughout all first-person shooters and aim with your mouse. It’s all fairly simple but the little guys on the screen though small, aren’t all that nimble and sometimes it takes a bit of time to get a jump just right or dodge an incoming enemy.

You get to choose from 18 weapons which differ in range, fire rate and damage making the game fairly balanced. You’ll find it enjoyable to hear that some of the weapons in Soldat sound exactly like those in Counter-Strike.

Soldat provides game styles such as ‘Deathmatch’, ‘Capture the flag’, ‘Hold the flag’, ‘Pointmatch’, ‘Teammatch’, ‘Infiltration’, ‘Survival’, all of which you can play on more than sixty maps. Having this variety and adding the fact that the game can be played with other people on LAN, Soldat has the potential to be very entertaining.

In the graphics department things aren’t really wonderful as the game isn’t all that appealing when it comes to looks. Hopefully you will find some compensation in gameplay and the dynamics of it all.

On a closing note, Soldat has a really good idea behind and that makes it a very enjoyable game and if you’re willing to overlook a few aesthetic aspects, it can certainly offer you a few hours of fun.
